Ok, I laughed with the last one of the robot with the wall pieces and the hair drier for the dragon. At least he was funny.

The magic VR robot would be cool, but I'd love for an affordable onmi-treadmill to come out.

Those things seem very awkward, like you have to step around in a rather deliberate manner that wouldn't really feel like you walking normally, let alone running or darting in some direction. I dunno, sounds like one of those "much nicer on paper" sort of things.

I know Q2 and Link are borked right now, but I can't get a few games to work right with VRD (mainly the controls for Steam Ultrawings). For some reason, a horizontal bar appears across the screen that's about 1/3rd of the screen height and is brighter than the rest and pixilated. I can't get it to go away. It doesn't show up on screenshots and seems to only happen when also in Steam VR. Oculus only games don't seem to do it so far. Never had it happen with my Q1. Otherwise, I finally have tried VTOL and it's amazing! It really satisfies the clicking buttons in airplanes feeling I love. I just can't get a good feel for the controls with my hand floating in the air and there's a lot to learn about the systems that's sort of overwhelming.

Valve didn't make all the right decisions re: VR but one thing they nailed was that 180/360 video would be worthless as a medium outside of porn.

Production cost of the videos isn't really the problem, they're just not particularly immersive or comfortable to view due to their hard-baked limitations (broken stereo, lack of 6DOF). There's better stuff on the way which should make good on the initial promise of linear VR content. Admittedly with a higher cost of production, but the end result is so much better even in prototype form it effectively obsoletes all the earlier stuff.

ok so Amazon lost my elite strap and case in shipping then I ordered a replacement from Oculus directly then they told me they can't send it because of manufacturing problems with no date specified for when they gonna this thing is a present for Jr for Christmas I can apparently order just the case for $50 and it should ship this week So... do I do that and just have an extra case if they ever ship? Or what How likely will the not elite strap fail for a kid beatsabering on christmas morning?

I haven't really feel the need for an elite strap myself, the regular one has been more than adequate. Though I don't know how it would work with a kid.

The elite strap is much more comfortable than what it shipped with.

I prefer the elite strap but it's not like the standard strap is an unusable piece of poo poo or anything, it's fine and is basically what we had with the DK1 and DK2 For a kid Beat Sabering at Xmas it's more than good enough

Anyway I bought just the case just now, since it looks like we may not get the case/battery/strap combo any time soon which is the thing that I ordered that got lost in shipping and then oculus said they werent going to send it because problems. kid is going to love the device yes. they love mine, this one is even better. so whatever, problem solved i guess, unless this one doesnt ship either.

hhhat posted:its more like, we need a case, and none of what you were saying... I'd look at an alternative to the official case. It has a flimsy feeling zip, and generally doesn't seem all that durable. It also can't accomodate many extra accessories, if that matters to you. You can fit the headset + stock or elite strap, few cables, and the controllers. Which is fine if you never plan on adding anything else. But if you attach knuckle grips the controllers no longer fit (at least, not with the AMVR grips I'm using), and you won't get anything more than a very small battery pack in there. I also don't know how any third party headstraps might fit, though I haven't got them to try yet. I regret getting it and am now looking for one of those hardcases with the pick and pluck foam as that will be a lot more flexible.

Hello there. I wanted to inquire about the nature of the whole Oculus - Facebook mess because I am in a position to potentially inherit someone's old base model Rift for basically free. Is it essentially you must make an Oculus account with a real name, which in turn must be linked to a Facebook account? Forgive my ignorance on this as it's something that was but a passing tragedy until very recently wherein I may now have to contend with whatever form of nonsense is required. If it is how I described then despite this being virtually free then it's an agonizing dealbreaker, because the only 'workarounds' I have had described to me are basically

SkySteak posted:Is it essentially you must make an Oculus account with a real name, which in turn must be linked to a Facebook account? You'll need a Facebook account. If you create a new one, you must use your real name and Facebook may ask for additional info for verification. It's probably a good idea to wait for a few days to make sure the account is good to go. The Oculus account is created the first time you sign in and can use whatever name you want. You must sign in with the Facebook account, there's no way to create separate Oculus accounts anymore.

Yeah, I've owned a bunch of VR headsets and the soft strap has been totally fine. It's kind of annoying to try to adjust the side straps, but once they're set right I've had no issues. Also, on the subject of a case, the box it comes in is surprisingly nice and sturdy. Seriously much nicer than it needs to be and it makes for a fine way to store the headset.
