I think a genuine challenge for modern leftism is a failure to connect at the human level, and it’s encouraging that there are people like Corbyn or AOC who can do it right. Otherwise it’s all about big trends here and historical forces there and “the individual doesn’t matter” and that is a FAR weaker message than “you can make a difference”.

A more suspicious person than I would think that letting people get good quality, cheap weed (and removing, or at least vastly reducing, the chances of the cops shooting you for it) is going to do more to reduce the chance of violent insurrection across America than any other measure that isn't, you know, not loving poor people from every direction.
