Yes but also the vast majority of lost Dems were conservative, so the left wing of the party is relatively more powerful than it was before in some respects.

Coredump posted:I wonder if any of the investigations into Trump that were held up and hamstrung now have a chance of being looked into anew if Biden wins. Unredacted Mueller report, etc. They can and absolutely should. Even if Biden goes full decorum poisoning, the unredacted reports need to be released. But all of those things that turned up criminal activity around "individual 1" need to be followed up on. Even if Trump writes "I bigly pardon your favorite president (me!) for all crimes!" on a piece of paper, full and complete investigations are needed just to have the truth out there. There won't be any more hiding from subpoenas behind made up concepts and sending the courts in circles. One of my bigger fears is that Biden doesn't do any of this out of decorum. That ignoring of previous administration's crimes has happened pretty much every time in history so far, but Trump isn't a secretary or two self-dealing (still mad about Teapot Dome, BTW). This has been naked, open corruption that has undermined all of our institutions and that needs to be addressed.

The 1.6M mail ins counted so far are breaking 78% Biden. The lead has shrunk from 657k to 370k. He needs 67.5% of the rest to win.

sexpig by night posted:unsurprisingly the 'why do these fools keep voting for trump???' question is answered by just asking them In the RadioLab episode I was referencing from yesterday (Bloc Party - it's good listen to it), it gets even wilder. There's a sect of Iraqis called the Chaldean's that have a long history of working in the Ford plants in MI. They also have traditionally been voting with the Catholic bloc and therefore Republicans because, mainly of the Abortion single issue. Well then ICE, under Trump, actually raided a bunch of them and detained them because a lot of them are not citizens (but it was like a compromise where they agreed only to round up 200 or so). A lot of them found this deplorable of course, but they were interviewing one guy IN HIDING essentially who still said he'd vote for Trump simply because of abortion. His pain and suffering and potential death didn't matter. Simply that Republicans stay in power to overturn abortion.

Yeah a big part of American Politics is that a significant minority of this country are entirely single issue voters and that issue is abortion. They've been manipulated over decades through religion and political propaganda to the point where you could now violate every single one of the Ten Commandments in a row on camera and as long as you opposed abortion you'd still get the evangelical vote.
