The results are telling me that Bernie would've lost. The downballot elections took a massive hit because everyone thought Bernie's "socialist" politics would drag Biden to the left and I think the electorate has shown they firmly reject this.
If Bernie ran against Trump in this matchup I could've seen states like Virginia, Wisconsin, etc flipping red and Trump would've comfortably sailed into re-election with the trifecta.

I'm not saying this to troll. The election results point to a sound rejection of what Americans culturally identify with as socialism.

It needs to be re-packaged under a different identity with a charismatic leader who knows how to work the media but isn't tarred and feathered by self described socialist ideals. Just like everyone today calls fascism Trumpism we have to call that centre-left social democratic idea something else. Whether it's Cortez-ism, New Monetary Theory or whatever.

Beyond the meme I think it's a tough counter-factual to actually assess properly because a Bernie campaign would have had completely different messaging than a Biden campaign. Biden wasn't interested in selling socialism to the American public, so the people who tried got shafted by the upballot campaign that wasn't interested in any of that poo poo. Have Bernie going around and (hopefully not dying of Covid in the process), talking to people at town halls explaining what he wants and letting them figure out if "not going bankrupt to pay for hospital bills" is bad socialism or good socialism.

Now that being said, as I said much earlier in this thread that's Bernie Unleashed. Bernie as the ideal candidate, basically. Would the Democrats even let him run that kind of campaign? I think if he did he would be successful, but who knows how the primaries would have gone even if he had won.

There's also the fact that a Bernie voter bloc might be a completely different constellation of voters and voting demographics. More young people, although as we've seen for leftists in general they still don't vote in numbers that can match boomers, a heavy focus on the Latino vote, and who knows what else? Maybe African-Americans they don't want the Lion of Burlington as President and throw in more heavily for Trump, no idea.

it's kind of like governors in blue states cracking down hardest on rioters and protesters; they can't afford to allow those parts of the country to wield anything resembling real power and upset the balance capital requires to keep the cogs moving the way they want. you can get lazier in the extraction centers of the country, but anywhere approaching the liberal centers of power require potent social conditioning to cripple bigger threats

Marin libs are extremely bad and a large portion of the state is white land-owning boomers when tehy bought a house for $20k that's now worth $2.5 million and paying $10/year in property tax because property assessments can't go up and turn into investment vehicle of NIMBYism and being constantly scared of antifa criminals coming into their cul-de-sacs to steal their tv.

and everyone under the age of 40 year here is some doughy white wisconsinite transplant from madison or milwaukee complaining about homeless as they code on the facebook bus.

that said you can usually convince marin libs to vote for most anything that says "INCREASE SCHOOL FUNDING" on the title except apparently prop 15 loving lmao

a good goon post earlier:

quote:

I'm totally convinced both american liberalism and american conservatism are exactly the same in terms of a foundational white supremacy that underlines both. the white viewpoint is the only valid one and non-white viewpoints don't exist because nonwhite (especially black) people are weird nonhuman entities that are fundamentally capital-O Others. If you're a liberal these others have no agency or independence and don't really do anything besides be a passive receptacle for abuse and oppression, and it's your job to infantilize and protect them and Uphold Their Voices (tm) in a way that doesn't do anything except redound to your status as a good ally and good liberal. with conservatives it's much more straightforward because then you just see these Others as demoniac engines of destruction that you (and your surrogates, the police) have to dismantle and repress. In either view nonwhite people are fundamentally incomprehensible, if you admit they have any kind of internal self at all, which I think explains the perspective of both the cops and of the lib "allies"

anyway bbl I have to go blast some thick ropes in the name of racial justice

They can call a constitutional convention with 2/3rd but they need 3/4ths of state legislatures to ratify so they won’t actually be able to change anything, which is unfortunate, because the constitution is absolutely garbage and the quickest way to throwing the whole thing out and starting over is if conservatives manage to gently caress it up beyond repair.
