Specialization is for insects.
This is pretty much a sketchpad where I put things I’m working on, or weird loop layer cakes, or whatever I think I might want to listen to and process while I walk the dog or go grocery shopping. I’m working on refining a few of these to put together a demo for Kranky, one of my life goals. :)

Mostly “heavy ambient”?

I can't remember if I posted this before, but here's mine: https://m.soundcloud.com/michaelnixmusic

Trve Cvlt Svrf is a black metal inspired surf rock song, Dead Beat and I Miss You are two different strains of post-punk, Peroxide and Predator are synth driven, cyberpunk inspired instrumentals, and Needle and High is a dark lounge number.

I'm working on electro punk and surfy post-punk albums now, so I'll post them when they're done, but that means I won't be updating the ol' Soundcloud for a while.

i'm a preschool teacher and I write a lot of songs for my class like this one about the book slowly slowly slowly said the sloth by eric carle

and about the content we are talking about, like this one about volcanoes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlQOAPWIpDc

but my soundcloud is my kind of catch all music project zone. a lot of original songs, some down tempo remixes of pop songs, some real zone out tracks

If I may recommend just one of each

here's a nice and slow version of "Falling out of love (with you)" by The 6ths

Hello! I recently threw money at some EastWest plugins because I want to make pompous hollywood music. Currently I'm fooling around trying to recreate various songs from movies/games so I hopefully learn how to use that "spac pizz 2nd french horn with a variable tremolo on key switch" correctly but here's a short original one:

https://soundcloud.com/fourtalkingwalls/the-flute-prince

Also is there a thread for movie/game composers here? Can't seem to find one >_<
- I'd add some reverb to the master track! AFAIK a lot of movies for that "Hollywood sound" has the natural room which then gets additional reverb slapped on (usually some sort of TC-electronics algorithmic reverb. Other than that you seem to be well on your way? (I don't know how to break into the industry unfortunately, but that doesn't stop me trying to write like in Hollywood just like you! You're on the way! Cheers)

I'm working on covers for the first time in... a decade? and decided to do my favorite Swans track, Helpless Child, because I'm a masochist. Still no vocals and I have some mixing to do but I'm pretty happy with how it's coming along. I don't really sing and kind of hate the sound of my voice but I'm gonna try to get something workable just so it's the complete package.

Thanks for the kind words! It's a really weird track to try to cover because a lot of the original was built with old cassette tape loops and an early 90s digital sampling keyboard. The guitar on mine is mostly Helix with a bit of Amplitube (because Amplitube's Orange amp sound is way better). I've got a better mix now and some vocals but I won't post it again until it's complete.

Oh good, vocals are a must. I don't understand why so many people won't do vocals, that is the most fun part.

I released a 70's car chase funk song last night: https://soundcloud.com/michaelnixmusic/what-goes-around-comes-around

It was an experiment to see if I could make a professional sounding song with the cheapest physical gear I have and, with the exception of the paid version of Reaper, all freeware software and plugins. The only non-free effect is the physical wah pedal, which is a cheap Donner one. The guitar and bass are real instruments, and the verse bass line is the most difficult instrumental line I've ever recorded. Those were recorded direct line and using amp sims, Swanky Amp for the guitar, and Lostin70's BassDeluxe for both bass lines. The synth is Fullbucket's Mono/Fury with a little reverb. The drums are the Millo-drums_v.1 kit from the standalone drum machine program Hydrogen.

I think I succeeded in my goal. I'm going to add vocals for my next cheap song for the added production complexity, but I'm really happy with how this one turned out, and and more that happy to talk production if anyone has questions.

I'm in the same synth boat. Working with midi synths has drastically improved my workflow to the point that, on a good run, I can knock out a song start to finish in two nights. I just finished recording my second album over the course of a year because of that. Now to just wait on album art and actually try marketing this one a bit so I sell more than one copy.
