Laser Disc is in particular a super niche and interesting format that is absolutely still kicking in the movie grognard circles, i don't know exactly why in that specific case but my mate that runs a record shop does a roaring trade in rare Laserdiscs

One of the jackie chan films was shot in the valley, can't remember which one though. If I remember right the cop cars were pretty old, either XFs or EAs. Could be getting confused or just talking out my arse but.

I loved Rumble in the Bronx when I was younger. I kind of don't want to watch it again cos it's probably awful
|
# ? Nov 6, 2020 09:54 |
My kid went through a huge Jackie Chan phase so we watched rumble in the bronx a few times. It's not bad per se, but it's definitely super cheesy and a product of its time and place. Still had some poo poo-hot stunts at least. The kid also got really into the rush hour films and those are loving dire.

I would blow Dane Cook posted:what work goes into a megacd restoration aside from capacitors? Theres the caps, but also obviously the belt, and new unscuffed front bezel. Then the modding for language/speed change and overclocking of the MD itself. Better video output options aswell. McSpergin posted:I'm curious as to why you do it, aren't some of those technologies kinda redundant as far as purpose? I mean it's still super interesting but is it just for fun or do you sell em or something? Thats like asking why someone is still wrenching on their old car. It's neat to play with. On the videogame side - I grew up poor and never had them until my teens. Now I have the disposable income, I like to fiddle with stuff. I'm a true hacker of sorts though so there is nothing I buy and then not try to modify in some capacity. The Laserdisc stuff started cos I wanted Star Wars and it grew from there. I also used to be in the film industry in varying capacities and I find LDs to be some of the best presented pieces of media. I don't really sell stuff, but mod or fix for friends or people I do business with as a favour or bartering. This MegaCD for example came from Perth and came with the MD1 getting its own mods, and 32X getting some stuff fixed for cleaner outputs. This is a stepping stone for the owner to then send me a big old huge bit of kit he wants fixed thats releated to both MD and LD. Humphreys fucked around with this message at 11:15 on Nov 6, 2020 |

Yalls need to watch Hong Kil Dong sometime, caught it at the cinema in DPRK way back when and then at the Korean film festival in Melbourne a few years ago they had a DPRK focus and played it there too with subtitles now on youtube for everyone's enjoyment. There is a really interesting history of how it was made with a director and actors being kidnapped from the ROK to film it to Kim Jong-Il's specifications and them fleeing to the US embassy in Vienna during distribution talks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVnXAuaFY_s

loving great day today cunts. I'm moving to a place with an actual backyard shortly, so I'm looking forward to be able to BBQ through the summer. I'm very interested in adaptable smokers which don't require too much attention and also wont break the bank. The ProQ Frontier is pretty tempting. Does anyone ITT have experience with smokers?

Yes! I bought one for mr bee's birthday a few months ago. I hit up my meat loving chef friend for advice on which one to get, and he reckons that there isn't a lot of difference between the $70 ones and the several hundred dollar ones outside of the price tag. So I got the jumbuck 3 in 1 barrel smoker from Bunnings, one of those inkbird Bluetooth temperature gauges, and a few bags of smoking chips. Mr bee modded the whole smoker by assembling it with the inner legs on the outside so he could lift the individual sections up to tend to the fire easier, he added a new fire bowl with better air circulation, and sealed the whole thing up it a bit better with some gasket tape. Sounds like a lot of loving about as I'm typing this up, but he seemed to enjoy customising it to his liking. There's some tips here: https://youtu.be/vYHSNR_UReM and here https://youtu.be/Kg2F_kOIIt4

I tried watching New Police Story last night by random chance (haven't read the thread since yesterday) because I felt like a Jackie Chan kick but Netflix didn't have Police Story or Project A1 as I wanted to watch. Really couldn't recommend ttytt, pretty odd and not very interesting at least for the first half hour I watched Then I put on The Last Action Hero which it turned out my partner had never seen. loving ace movie, and she loved it. So excellent, prime Arnie and I love both the way it escalates the stakes by literally pulling back in the final third to remind the audience all the ball-busting action previously had been completely safe and also Danny DeVito as an animated cat cop.

Turducken in the smoker? I can't believe I've never thought of that before. I've been getting a turducken from Aldi (or three) every Xmas since they introduced them and they were called "3 bird roast". Pro tip, the leftovers work amazingly well on home made pizzas on boxing day!

I seen a few pieces of camphour turned and they are lovely but also make the floor around the lathe slipery as gently caress thanks to the stuff that comes off when you turn it. My great uncle liked to turn with camphour because it was plentiful where he lived at taree and he was more than happy to repurpose something that is seen as a weed. When he died they buried him in a coffin made of camphour which he would have loved.

I wanna post that bit from Red Dwarf in the season 3 episode 'Marooned' where Rimmer smells the burning wood and recognises it as camphor and declares his undying friendship with Lister for his sacrifice in burning his guitar which he erroneously believes to have been made of camphor but I can't find a clip of it so I just described the scene instead.
