According to experts, many foreigners become depressed and experience stress because of elections. Elections also create division and harm social harmony. President Xi protects our citizens from these dangers, every Chinese citizen has the right to live in the harmonious society and enjoy less stress!

China's having a great old time blocking Australian goods at the moment, with some big taxes etc put on wine. But what do you think will be next after this event? https://amp.abc.net.au/article/12852974 "The 65-year-old Melbourne man who has become the first person charged in Australia under foreign interference laws is a prominent member of Victoria's South-East Asian Chinese community and belongs to groups connected to China's overseas influence efforts." See this is what pisses me off when people refer to the UN, or the sanctity of international law. No, nation states are the highest political unit and anything larger is either a very large corporation or paid talking heads riding the think tank gravy train becauase it is convenient for the powers that be. It doesn't have to be that way, but that is how it is.

The whole thing with Ma and the ANT group is pretty funny because regulation requires them to have a 6% reserve. Not outlandish or anything, but when they went to IPO the party came in and shut them down demanding they had to have a 30% reserve which is obviously punitive retaliation most likely because of Ma's very recent and very public criticism of the party and lending regulation. It was hilariously transparent. Yet, ANT only ever had 1.9% reserve to begin with so they weren't in compliance to IPO anyways and the whole thing could have been done properly above the board and really the IPO should have never been allowed to go past the initial proposal stage but instead we get this big stupid CCP dick waving contest.

So uh, can anybody provide more detail on why Taiwanese felt Trump was so important to their relationship with the USA? Was it just that time he called them in 2015, or were they just really jazzed about the trade war? https://www.newsweek.com/taiwan-president-urges-calm-trump-biden-1545054 quote:As Taiwanese woke to find Trump's early lead slowly diminishing amid a surge of votes for former Vice President Biden, Taiwan's president sought to ease the country's sense of panic.

Trump is pretty bad if you want the whole "US has your back". Unless you're family there hasn't been a single person he hasn't betrayed, thrown under the bus, sold out to, ripped off, insulted or gaslighted. If he could get a dollar from you dying or sending you to Xi with a bow tie he will take that dollar. Everyday he has been in office he has made America weaker. All the actually good US moves are despite of him from people working to bypass him. Like, I understand the rhetoric from him sounds good, but even a cursory examination reveals he is full of poo poo.

Biden has a 50 year political record so if you want to know why Taiwan doesn't like him you can just look. He's always been pretty pro-China relatively speaking. He's a big proponent of the engaging with China as a means of liberalization and was a big backer of getting China "most favored nation" trade status with the US. He has also gone on record making official statements that the US will not go to war with China to protect Taiwanese independence. He's been opposed to major US bills to increase military support of Taiwan such as the Taiwan Security Enhancement Act. And Biden's new "hard line" stance on China is only what, a month or 2 old?
|
# ? Nov 7, 2020 15:13 |

On the other hand, none of those soft policies are going to fly anymore. It would be nice to see more support for Taiwan but during Obama's term the focus was already shifting to military readiness and economic alliances in the Pacific.

China is a bi-partisan issue which Biden can't ignore even if he wanted to as well as being the elephant in the room making him a complete idiot to return to Even if Trump was following through somehow he will naturally botch it, do it for the wrong reasons all the while literally killing people domestically and pissing off allies. Despite the Trade War Xi quite frankly would prefer Trump as he can walk all over him and let him break American power. Biden has also been willing to change and admit to past mistakes. Compared to Trump he might as well be Einstein, Biden is old, not stupid. He no doubt will re-engage with our allies and take down the nonsense tariffs. The geopolitics mean it would be an absolute blunder not to back Taiwan. Lets not forget the President has a Cabinet.

Sure Trump is a reprehensible buffoon, but it's going to be hard to overnight erase the feelings built up over a track record that long. Biden has been relatively pro-China and anti-Taiwan since the 70's and his stance only changed a few months ago when the election showed how well being anti-China played. Trump is incompetent but he's still the first president I can think of that was willing to push an aggressively anti-China stance. It's not hard to see why anti-CCP Taiwanese establishments would prefer one to the other. In more interesting news, The rest of the world can only salivate as China begins experimental deployment of it's new 6G network https://asiatimes.com/2020/11/china-leapfrogs-world-with-first-6g-experimental-satellite/ The junk collector fucked around with this message at 17:23 on Nov 7, 2020 |
