well it's nothing definitive, but this is looking better than it was at 1am pacific not saying it with certainty (nevada is way too loving close), but i think based on the type of ballots left to count and the places in the states where ballots remain, biden will win MI, WI, AZ, and NV and barely squeak out a win without needing PA or GA that the final margins will be at best be joe up less than 5% in the popular vote rather than 30% is a searing indictment on the racism and sheer stupidity of this country

# ? Nov 4, 2020 17:38 |

that's certainly one way of looking at it

this definitely feels like a pyrrhic victory

maybe it's just the fatigue talking, but i'll take a pyrrhic victory over a straight up defeat who knows, maybe the establishment dems will catch covid and aoc will be running the party in 2022

gojm did your state really just vote yes on stripping job security, healthcare and benefits from gig workers?

Furnaceface posted:gojm did your state really just vote yes on stripping job security, healthcare and benefits from gig workers? yeah, but the uber and lyft put up $200 million to convince people it did the opposite of those things. no one on the labor side had anywhere near that kind of war chest, so the whole campaign leading up to the election was pretty one sided i'm honestly more bummed that the proposition to fix our broken commercial property taxes didn't pass

So what's going on with the US senate? It's been sitting at 47 vs 47 for a good while now (I check the CNN front page a couple of times a day).
|
# ? Nov 6, 2020 06:36 |
|
it should be 48-48 (democrats will almost certainly take az and republicans hold me, but cnn hasn't called for either yet), nc is waiting for late arriving ballots before calling (almost certainly staying republican), ak is stil counting, only 50% counted (republican leads, the independent opponent claims he'll win when mail-ins are counted, but i'm dubious), and both of ga's seats are likely to go to a run-off to take place in january (i believe republicans will take both seats when a national election isn't driving turnout) so we're almost certainly looking at a 48-52 senate, though there still exists the technical possibility of a miracle that allows the democrats to pickup enough seat to tie or gain control

*squints* you either googled "good morning arizona" or are distressingly legit some MAGA people threatened to kill an azFamily reporter at the protests outside the vote counters office so thats a thing (not to be confused with the mike cernovich protest) (or yesterdays alex jones sponsored protest)

The average age of a US politician is like 99 so its most likely that youre just used to it and it doesnt seem out of place. Also how the gently caress is your election still going on? Its like making people wait in 7 hour lineups to vote isnt enough torture, now you need to draw out the final process to further the pain.

Furnaceface posted:The average age of a US politician is like 99 so its most likely that youre just used to it and it doesnt seem out of place. normally the vote counting goes on for ages, but no one cares because the important states are all called pretty quickly. it took weeks to get final popular vote numbers for 2016, and turnout is way higher this year after 2016, though, news orgs are too cowardly to call the election at the normal margins so they're letting those last few states draw things out even after the result is very clear
