Ninety percent effectiveness in preventing disease is good, but we have a problem if the vaccine doesn’t produce sterilising immunity, so there are still as many carriers out there, they’re just shifted to the asymptomatic column, and they’re behaving as if they don’t have a care in the world. For all that “herd immunity” has been bandied about by bad actors, vaccines can give it to us and we need it, but we need better than “only protects from serious disease” and “one and a half billion doses through the end of 2021. The other vaccines will at least help with the latter.

That pfizer vaccine has to be stored and transported at -94° and remains viable for less than 24 hours at normal freezer temperatures so if you want to make an indirect stock play look at welding gas vendors. The vaccine was developed by BioNTech, though, Pfizer's only pre-commerzialization contribution (outside a metric assload of money) is the expanded trial capacity that the large pharma giants have. Pfizer's "real work" only starts when a certain success-probability in the development is reached, and then the industrialization starts to ramp up to yet another milestone (below full capacity) until certification can be achieved. Then, "full commercialization" starts, the developing company gets yet another metric assload of money, and Pfizer starts rolling in the gently caress-you-tier money. There are also still a bunch of question marks regarding this vaccine, like if it can prevent asymptomatic-carrying, or the really severe case development. Also also: The street address of BioNTech's research headquarters is "An der Goldgrube 12", which translates to "Near the Goldmine".
