Webcomics goons always get weird about artists drawing porn, and at this point it feels like a puritanical hangover from 2006. Literally every artist I know has drawn erotic art at some point - what's the big deal if someone wants to get paid for it?
I think part of it is that once something gets categorized as 'bad' in goons eyes an arms race starts over who can wring the most outrage/disgust out of every possible aspect of it regardless of wether its warranted or not and that kinda attitude leads to some people in the other thread getting upset at casual nudity but only when the bad comic does it.

I stopped reading the thread (and the comic) because it eventually just got exhausting. It's not even constantly reaching new heights of batshit terrible any more. It's just consistently, unrelentingly bad, and there's only so many jokes you can make about that. There are no highs any more, no roller coasters of emotions, just "...yep, this sure is Mookie."

Maybe I'm just too old and tired for mock threads.

First, what was that one weirdly endearing furry comic about a half blind cat Knight with an ear cut off. I remember finding that in the old webcomic mock thread ages ago and everyone basically enjoying it since it seemed so genuine.

unrelated mostly to my previous post but i am disheartened to say that smackjeeves is beyond saving financially due to the actions of the company that purchased it some time ago that deliberately drove it into the ground (as it has done with previous acquisitions before). i'm pretty pissed off about this from an archival point of view: you can argue that there was little of value on smackjeeves because none of the "heavy-hitters" are hosted on there anymore (as far as i know) but it was, and is, historically one of the fledgling art sites of the early internet and i think it's horrible to have all that art lost no matter now amateur it is. this is so much early internet history down the drain! gone! lost! all these records of short lived trends, weird ideas that never quite got off the ground or webcomics that have been quietly chugging along for years with little fanfare are now just kaput. what a waste of talent and time. people's efforts deserve better than to just be hucked into a digital furnace.

additionally, everyone has to start somewhere and free-hosting that is easy to navigate has become harder and harder to find as time marches on. webcomics as a creative field is becoming a little bit exclusive, although not intentionally. the platonic idea of a "successful webcomic" is one with slick, polished professional art so those are the ones that easily bubble to the top and therefore are the ones that everyone tries to emulate. but i hope there is still a cheap or free space for people who are not looking to be professionals or create professional grade art and want to make weird or amateur art freely without feeling like they need to live up to a specific standard of quality eventually.

if it were up to me, i would hope some day there is a place like this again on the internet and it is fostered better than smackjeeves was.

Once again Skin Horse is making fun of The X-Files and I am perennially here for that. I am also perennially here for the current going-ons being ludicrous to explain in/without context, such as the fact that Not Mulder and Not Scully have fallen in love with an uplifted rat while piloting an infiltration drone that is a clearly robotic rat drone.

The Legacy of Dominic Deegan is enormously boring unfortunately but I do admire Mookie for actually getting out of their comfort zone and following up a comic that was 80% word balloon with one about a deaf protagonist on top of going out of their way to include more detailed backgrounds.

It's a shame that they've essentially made The Quiet Man: the webcomic so far in that Snout's Deafness isn't really represented very well and the biggest impact it has on the flow of the story is how every few pages snout will sit and write down an ongoing explanation in his diary because actually conveying the plot without words is actually pretty hard to do when your story is about the history of a bullshit magic man.

In another sideplot Mookie has gotten into drawing hairy saytrs in the buff and is including nudity in the comic quite casually. He also got caught using GIS photo reference for some backgrounds but basically went "yeah but I'm bad at backgrounds so using reference helps me why do you care" before posting a page that was litterally Snout sitting in the cafe from Nighthawks. He also recently posted about not giving a poo poo if people don't like copy/paste before reusing basically half of a fight scene again wholesale. Doesn't give a poo poo Mookie actually kinda rules, but Snouts adventures are completely aimless and his balls aren't even that nice.

They said speculation about him and his personal life, which your creepy psychopath thread 100% does.

Dominic Deegan is super bad but the lovely mock thread verges into 1984 5 minute hate territory with each person climbing over each other to make the most bombastic claims about how it's the worst thing ever. It's insufferable.

On one hand, I don't want to vilify someone who grew up out of their hosed up fetishes and wants to distance themselves from it, but on the other shifting blame onto others and claiming that they were just done for commissions and not owning up just speaks of trying to brush things under the rug and not of someone actually apologetic and trying to move on.
