This made me notice the dash is also weird polygons. So the wheel is a hexagon and the gauges in the interior are weird hard edged polys and there's I guess some kinda polygon pattern on the seats. The fake grille has a bunch of triangles that make diamond shapes but that's the only sort of coherency there is. The rest of the switch gear is all crystal (which is kinda sick) but then the media control knob by the arm rest is for some reason sat on top of the only wood in the entire car?!

Please tell me those are not touch controls surrounding that knob. Touch controls in a moving vehicle need to go away ASAP. Sooner if possible. Like before they started.

Having a BMW with idrive, those are totally touch buttons. There's (physical) buttons surrounding the wheel in my car that correspond to the functions in that image. I don't mind (actually like) touch screens if there are physical buttons for the functions you'll want to do while the car is in motion. Those look terrible to use by feel.

There's an opportunity there to teach everyone something and give the buttons tactile feel with braille.

I like how BMW had the gold standard for a gear selector and decided to go for generic knob instead. Overall I think I haven't witnessed a creative bankruptcy and subsequent downfall of a car maker as hard as BMW's yet.

They should really park like, a 1970 CSL and an E46 M3 next to whatever their styling department comes up with, and then every time it isn’t AT LEAST as good looking as one of those, someone gets fired.

I think the worst thing is an electric car doesn't have to adhere to a lot of the conventions of normal car design so you can go pretty crazy with it. ....and this boring looking thing with an enormous vestigial grille is what they turn out. At least their bike development team are doing something interesting I guess. Fully electric scootay.

That seat looks brutally uncomfortable but I guess my rear end would have to suffer for the art because the whole thing is gorgeous. Probably the first BMW motorcycle you could actually say that about.

Emissions, or obnoxious efforts at exhaust note manipulation?

Euro 4 (and Euro 5 ready) exhaust. Its got an exhaust valve like all Supersports nowadays so it will be loud whenever regulations have a loophole. The emissions on a warm engine were never really an issue with just a basic lambda control and 3 way catalyst, but EU says you now have to begin your homologation test on a dead cold engine so the exhaust contraption is mostly there for that first 20 seconds or so until the catalyst and sensors are warmed up. after that its dead weight. Reminds me my R6 is Euro 3 and i can legally ride my open 4-2-1 exhaust with a single muffler with the pinky swear of adding a drop-in catalytic converter before i finish the installation. The homologation does not require a permanent installed cat. Also to go with the thread, i have an urge to buy a Mazda RX-8 since they are dirt cheap in germany now and everyone surviving so far comes with "a factory new cat, never installed" and "original looking cat housing, empty" as well as the adapters to directly inject 2 stroke oil into the chambers, which i dig. By the way , 15 L/100km is also roughly 15 MPG and the expected fuel economy of the last mass produced rotary. Combat Theory fucked around with this message at 21:49 on Nov 12, 2020 |

I suspect the electrical devices consume less energy and are lower maintenance.
