So question for people here. When you throw a dollar at a project and decide not to back do you still go through the pledge manager or do you just ignore it?
I ignore it.

There have been times where I legit did upgrade after only pledging $1, but otherwise I don't go through it and close the project.

Ignore. I usually throw a buck and decide it isn’t worth it more often than increase pledge to a real one. I am also the KS consumer who never pays up until pledge manager launches and even then I always try and find when it closes and push to end of that so my finances aren’t tied up forever.

If I'm undecided on a project I just don't back and save it for the 48-hour reminder. I'll only pledge for the $1 (or $5 in some cases now) tier if I want to pledge but want to wait to spend the money until the pledge manager.

After it become clear to me that it's an endless wave of games I now just back $1 and decide later based on what other kickstarters have shown up in that time and also shipping prices.

If anyone backed Lords of Vegas in the pledge manager, prepare for disappointment. They had some critical inventory control issues for the base game and can't fulfill all the post campaign pledges. They're trying to convince some backers to give up their pledge for that piece if they don't need it/can buy a copy from an FLGS...but who knows how that'll work out

That KS was trash tier for such a gem of a game. Glad I stayed away.

I backed one project at $1 because I couldn’t decide if I honestly needed $149 worth of plastic terrain. I ended up buying it, but now I have to paint it and then convince my wife to play a miniature game with me.

I've backed a few things at $1 when I wasn't sure about them. I'm probably 50/50 on whether I then backed them in the pledge manager. Most of the time it's because I want to see a more detailed gameplay video or something, but I like the idea.

I backed Etherfields at $1. Then I decided it wouldn't get played so I didn't follow through.

Just got my first wave box for Etherfields (which is immense). No thanks to FedEx, who "attempted delivery" in the sense that they put a door tag instead of my package or contacting me (I was home all day, as I am every day in COVIDland) and then immediately transferred it to a Walgreens that is a mile away as the crow flies, but around 45 minutes away involving two buses by public transit and way the hell too far for me to walk lugging a giant box-o-game. Instead of attempting redelivery. And they refused to attempt delivery again when I called. gently caress FedEx.

Anyway, very excited.

I feel that. Last time I missed a FedEx (missed as in, they rang once, and ran away almost immediately), I had to drive a good hour away and wait until they were available (aka after 7pm) when the truck came back. What a huge waste of time.

Purolator here is like that. It's on the outskirts of the city, and precisely one bus goes out there.

I wish Amazon would give you the option of choosing your shipper. They installed some Canada Post parcel boxes in the main building, and that'd be a lot more convenient than J. Random Courier Svcs.

Yeah, no kidding. For me I'd happily have every package sent USPS, because USPS consistently delivers anything shipped by them without me ever having to worry about it and if something went terribly wrong and they held it at a USPS facility instead of delivering it, they're everywhere and the one that covers my area is trivial to get to (and my best friend works there, but I don't know if he'd actually be allowed to snag it and bring it to me). Whereas UPS and Fedex gently caress me over several times a year minimum and there's no way to do anything about it. But I've also heard from people who absolutely swear by UPS or Fedex and whose USPS route is served by a complete fuckup. If we could pick, there'd be a whole lot fewer customer service calls. I can only assume there are technical, logistical, or financial reasons it doesn't make sense for them.

And of course, Kickstarter fulfillment is going to go through whatever channel is easiest and cheapest for the creator or their fulfillment company. Which, sadly, is almost never the one I want...

Jul 28, 2013

Half the time I've had something sent to me via FedEx they get it most of the way here and then hand it off to USPS to deliver anyways, so I'd honestly rather just have it be the Postal Service all the way.

Just to note that the Townsfolk Tussle kickstarter is ending soon. If you're at all interested in a boss battler game (rpg-style fights against a single enemy with complex ai and behavior) then this looks like an awesome game particularly if something like Kingdom Death doesn't appeal because of the aesthetic/price/fiddliness.

Townsfolk Tussle seems to have retained the depth of decision making and complex tactical combat but with session - based play (rather than a campaign) and a super cool art style. I'd highly recommend this one to anyone on the fence.

This isn't out yet but it will eventually be a KS campaign I'm sure. Been kind of following Where Humans Don't Belong on BGG since I like space exploration as a premise.

Well the designer recently posted more about what the game will be like and it's partly intriguing but also kind of ehhhh sounding.
My takeaways were:
  • Originally came from an idea to make a tabletop version of Starship Traveller (the fighting fantasy book) for which he tried but failed to get the IP
  • The main cores of the game actually sound a lot like he's describing the main parts of Voyage of the BSM Pandora, which I happen to think is a fun little gem of a game (but dated and impossible to find.)
  • I think he makes the assertion that the narrative elements will come from interaction of game systems rather than from a narrative book (good)? But it's also really vaguely worded and could actually mean anything really.
  • Lots of references to a mix of films and games and stuff to explain "what it will be like", which is a kind of dull-red flag in my opinion. Now maybe that's just elevator-pitch talk, but it also reminds me a lot of another game Lifeform (see below)
  • He made Lifeform, which is a "all my favorite parts of movies and stuff jammed together" game. For starters, behold a 40+ page dumpster fire of a fine-print rulebook. As a chaser, when I did a web search for rulebook errata the first thing I saw was a BGG post with the designer being all how dare U
Basically all the good parts that get me interested do so in a way that gives more apprehension than excitement. Maybe I'm getting old.

But it still really is nice to see people work on dream projects that excite them.

Huh, it makes me weirdly happy to see that it’s not just me that had issues with the Lifeform manual. I found it very hard to follow even basic set-up let alone the rules of how to play.

:respek: The best thing I can say about the Lifeform rulebook is that all the information needed to play the game is technically present, in one way or another (barring edge cases, because of course there are edge cases.) But it is a really badly made document in many ways.

It’s annoying cos I do love the anger that games caused by having so many female heroes but yeah I don’t dare touch it even though it’s a uk project. My mate used to work for them and various stories, the way he was treated and I think they got taken over by some big Chinese company that caused some grim changes too.

However tempting the figures are I’m avoiding
