So Q was out there explaining to the faithful who wanted to love trump, but saw him loving up left and right, and gave them a reason to believe that actually he was a genius and all this was simply a smokescreen before the evil leftists were rounded up by the military and shot. That position became a lot more untenable as trump continued to be a moron and gently caress up even worse, and there was no sign of this grand plan materializing despite a couple predicted dates coming and going without so much as a fart. So obviously the believers became more rabid in their belief that this was true, because humans are just scared apes that are a little too clever for their own good.

I don't think the person posting as Q has come up with this strategy themselves, it's evolved within the Qanon community on 8kun, just like the strategy of posting '17' or some phrase involving the word 'cue' instead of the letter now that Twitter has clamped down on overt Q.

I think there are two factors that’ll blunt the potential danger of the qanon community after the election results are official. One factor is that Qanon is a passive belief rather than a call to action: it’s all about “doing your own research” and being content to know that all your problems will be solved for you by Trump, with no call to action for its followers beyond reading the drops. The handful of Qanon people who’ve gone out and done something violent for the cause were immediately repudiated or dismissed as false flags by the community, rather than celebrated like they would be if they represented something like the militia movement or white nationalism. The other is that Trump’s already setting up his 2024 exploratory committee, so the promise of more Trump on the horizon is going to keep them satisfied and let them fantasize about how Trump will have the Democrats right where he wants them after four years of planning.
