Wow, I really didn't think this was a scale I cared much about. But then you see something like his St Paul's Cathedral. Really nice stuff. The long lord of the rings piece is very nicely detailed too.

Micro scale has always fascinated me and been something I want to get into.. and when I start trying to do it I realize I am dumb and make ugly poo poo. I'm just not good enough at using pieces in abnormal ways.

God drat there are a lot of those nebulon things on Ebay. Looks like people are making...15-20 after all is said and done. Doesn't seem like it is worth it.

Well, of course I know him.
He's me.
My Nebulon already arrived and I built it tonight. Took about 1.5 hours, and the build itself isn’t really grueling or fun. Lots of little fiddly 1-stud connections that you’ll have to line up properly and the “fins” on the bottom of the engine segment feel like they’ll fall off at a moment’s notice.

It could definitely use a few spots of dark red or more nougat and I almost wish it came with some kind of minifigure (2-1B would have been perfect!), but it looks good and it’s bigger than I thought it would be.

For one it likely isn't, multiply that by 10 or 20 and its a different story.

Also, little surprised the Ecto-1 isn't sold out yet. Super tempted to grab it, but feel like I should try to wait till VIP weekend. (And if it's sold out then I can live with getting it later.)

I had this happen once, the order got duplicated and they sent me 3 of a one-per-person item, and then weeks later the charge showed up, so I guess keep an eye out for that.

I got one at the store this morning and I'm a bit into bags 5. It's got a couple of impressive playfeatures already assembled, including one that reminds me of Carbohydrates' bank TNT mechanism.

What's the Lego CAD software of choice these days?

I'd want something that I can easily build in and then somehow get a nice render out of. Was just thinking about some counter-strike isometric scenes that an artist did for a wallpaper series and think it'd be cool to replicate that in Lego for fun as a distraction.

Yeah this or Mecabricks. I actually prefer the way Mecabricks "handles" and it has more powerful rendering tools, but Stud.io has EASIER rendering tools, and more importantly (to me), instruction making tools, so it's become my go-to. Also the Bricklink integration is super nice.

I picked up the creator 3–in-1 cafe/pet shop set a while back. I think the candy store set can slot into a side of it, right? Are there any other sets I could get to expand it a bit. I love how it looks on my shelf right now. I also might pick up that camper set they put out a month or so ago.

Yeah, all the creator 3-in-1 buildings with the sidewalk/curb link together like the larger expert ones. The stand alone ones can sometimes link to them if they have the same pins set up to hold a lawn or something, just swap it around.

Yup, LEGO sets typically* have a retail life of 1 to 3 years.

*I know there are a ton of exceptions but I'm mainly thinking of the VW Camper right now, which is like... 8 years old? And still on shelves.

I really don't want to just start buying random sets but I'm pretty interested in that treehouse with autumn leaves that's on sale today. And that ship in a bottle too.

I love the Treehouse but I still have the spring/summer leaves on, seems like too much of a pain to change them out. I passed on the Ship in a Bottle last time and I probably will again. I also decided against the Saturn V last time but who knows.

It could do with making some larger clear pieces to get rid of some seams.

I think the seams are tolerable in person. Or I could photograph it with a polarizer I guess. :v:

But when you can actually see through the plastic it looks fine.

It definitely does, and it's also something that really draws the attention and impresses people, because it's something they wouldn't expect from a Lego set.

All my big display sets are impressive, but the Ship in a Bottle is the one that's really fascinating.

For me I feel like the more custom made pieces there are the less lego-y a set feels, so if most of those clear pieces are actually used as windows in buildings from other sets that's cool. If it was just one big plastic bottle with no seams then that just seems like a plastic bottle. Which... now I'm thinking I never should have sold my old lego pirate ship and just stuck it in one of those jugs from the office water cooler
