I get much harder Mortal Kombat vibes from that than Predators, to the point where Cage comes off like he's riffing on Lambert's Raiden.

i like the animation of the title characters, but the integration into live action... not so much. to say nothing of everything else

also why have a weirdly antiquated voiceover but only for the first 15 or so seconds

I dunno, at least they’re going for classic gags and not “old characters in the modern world how WACKY!” approach? I don’t think it looks good, but it doesn’t look nearly as horrible as I’d expect. I just wish there was more cartoon poo poo in their human world, I want full blown Roger Rabbit style blending of styles.

It's pretty funny that the opening blurb ("...provides an entirely new experience") is not from a critic, but from the director. Also, were there any shots of Sofia Coppola in that? She seemed conspicuously absent.

I'm confused. Was Godfather 3 famously hosed with by the studio or something? I thought it was just universal accepted that it sucked because it was A) unnecessary, B) lazy, and C) Sofia Coppola was terrible in it. What would this solve, besides possibly B, and maybe just a little bit?

Like, it's just a re-edit? Is there any more info on what this actually is? This is the first I'm hearing of this.

Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone’ is an acknowledgement of Mario’s and my preferred title and our original intentions for what became The Godfather: Part III. For this version of the finale, I created a new beginning and ending, and rearranged some scenes, shots, and music cues. With these changes and the restored footage and sound, to me, it is a more appropriate conclusion to The Godfather and ‘The Godfather: Part II and I’m thankful to Jim Gianopulos and Paramount for allowing me to revisit it.

That's all we know.

COVID Cases are spiraling out of control and hospital ICUs across America are being overloaded, with numbers spiking as we go into the holiday season and 40% of Americans are planning to attend superspreader events with their families. Any filmmaker telling you to go watch their comic book schlock in the cinema is committing a disgusting act of negligence.

Did she tweet in Chinese, Thai, or Vietnamese? Oh right, she tweeted in English, the primary language of countries like America and the UK, in which the deadly pandemic is spiraling out of control and there is no "safe" movie theater, even though there's a massive domestic ad campaign right now insisting that it's somehow "safe" to sit in an indoor theater for 1.5-2 hours with a dozen other people. It's absolutely reckless.

We're going to get Disney Theaters and Netflix Theaters as the big players coming out of this, post-Paramount decision reversal.

My big fear is that even though indie theaters could thrive in that environment, they won't have anything to play. That the model will shift so much that anything that isn't a major studio release will just go straight to streaming and never bother with theatrical distribution. I don't think it's the most likely scenario, as audiences like theaters and a theatrical release gives some prestige, but it feels like things could shift in that direction at least to a degree.
