Yes but just consider how many of Boris' chums are invested in city centre commercial property. What about their rents? What about their valuation gains? joke's on them because all the valuers I see are stating material uncertainty anyway

I remember reading that research involving contact with bats was stopped to avoid the risk of infecting them - this was back in wave 1 so can't find a source.

From southern Germany, to central Iowa, north Alabama, and central Florida, I've always been told to leave bats the gently caress alone because of risk from disease both ways. Sounded like good advice then, doubly so now.

My point was mainly in response to (and I should have quoted it as such) the person who said it was done because direct handouts to those in need are too much of a socialist plot for the US to do. It’s not, there’s genuine benefits to stimulus like this that lead to better outcomes, even if in this case the execution was terrible and lead to cases.

I’m a critical care (ICU) doctor in the US. I’ve seen a lot of folks die of this disease. Round 2 (going on now as we didn’t have a middle peak where I’m at) we’ve had much more success- probably because the stupid loving ER isn’t intubating everyone like moron robots before trying high flow oxygen and non-invasive ventilation like we have done for years with bad viral pneumonia. Because of over intubation, we would run out of room, pts were left in hallways falling into shock due to oversedation. Eventually they would get up to us in the ICU in complete multi organ failure where they would promptly code out and die alone and I’d have to call their families. Sorry bit of PTSD.... Anyway if we keep our heads about us and do things the way they should be done knowing that covid isn’t some magic disease, the in-hospital mortality rate should (and has!) drop due to lack of panic and stupidity (that I took part in) during the first phase of this crisis. That of course all goes out the window if the hospitalization rate gets further out of control and people end up in hallways. When you hear about running out of hospital beds, increased death rates are about 5 days behind.
