I'm getting deja vu, I feel like I've seen these posts from you before possibly in the switch thread arguing about skyrim spiders. I will say as I did then that it obviously sucks for you that you have that reaction to a thing however the vast majority of people who say they have arachnophobia (or indeed any phobia) have no clinically diagnosed thing at all and merely just dislike spiders or whatever else. I know because I was one of them. I don't think it's reasonable to expect an entire Internet forum to not post pictures of a common insect to cater to your specific need. That's without getting into the fact that exposure therapy is one of the most effective ways of treating any phobia.

It's not about my personal need in fact and I am a trained clinician who knows people who are greatly affected by such things, and I think the general population isn't aware of the severity it has in a fair number of folks.

Some posters regularly spoiler, link, and/or TW gigantic spider images - it's not much of a put out, but especially in a thread like this which people go to to DE-stress. I'm not saying not to post them in threads about critters and creepy things and nature or whatnot. I'm not saying not to post them at all, really, but PSAs about how you can help others live a better life are themselves blessed, IMO

Again, not to poo poo up this thread with words, I'm done barring further direct replies worthy of comment

So, I was part of LGBT alliance groups in HS and college and it tore me up how so many of my peers didn't feel like they could be genuine to who they really were. I was """lucky""" that since I was bi/pan, I could pass as straight at any time but never felt like I could be upfront with my real self. Even my mom, who is a lesbian, took a long while to accept that there are people who are not hardline straight or gay. She had been married twice to men so... the irony.

Being able to be open and free about your non-het sexuality is not something I would see in my lifetime back when I was a teenager. I thought we were always going to have to use coded language and dodge questions at Thanksgiving.

We may have finally found unobtainium but I will never find eywa.

As some constructive blessed content to add to the spider debate, I'm gonna link to Spiderween: An Arachnophobe-Safe Guide to Spiders,
a very nice informative series of posts about why spiders are cool and important, with cute anthropomorphized cartoon spider illustrations that shouldn't spook anyone too bad.

quote:

They're fragile, they're tiny, and they really are more afraid of you, but that hasn't stopped countless millions of people from harboring a pathological terror of spiders so severe, some of them can't even look directly at a cartoon facsimile of an arachnid without experiencing immediate anxiety.

But with nearly 50,000 described species dating back at least 390,000,000 years, the Arachnid order Araneae is a much bigger part of our world than all of us vertebrates ever put together, our global ecosystem would suffer terribly without them, and the colorful, quirky forms they can come in can be downright unbelievable.

I think everyone deserves a chance to learn about such an amazing corner of the animal kingdom, and so for an entire thirty-one entries in a row, we're about to go over some of the most interesting spider species, spider habits and spider superpowers without a single realistic spider in view.

Filming your proposal isn't weird though? It's one of the happiest moments in your life (if all goes well) and sharing that with your close ones is fine. I loved seeing my sister's reaction when she was proposed, genuinely brought tears to my eyes to see the pure surprise and joy she experienced.
