I don't know if I'll regret sharing this, but at least it's not drama? My home office, which I redecorated this year from a shade of battleship grey. An interesting thing to note is that all these images were taken within five minutes of each other. The shade of pink is the same on each wall. Light and shadow really play such a huge part in how we perceive a colour. The cream wall with the french doors was painted cream rather than pink because when there is strong light coming through the doors, the wall would have appeared very dark and oppressive. My intention with the room was to explore maximalism without eclecticism. I don't think I quite made it to maximalist, it's just that we're so used to minimalist decor that anything beyond that looks like a lot. The art is mostly by local artists, although the cassowary is a print by an artist in Seattle that was a fundraiser for Australian bushfire recovery efforts. I need to get the window replaced - it's old and in bad shape - and when that's done I'm going to make a roman blind in the same fabric as the closet curtain. The room functions both as my home office and as a transition point between indoor space and outdoor space; all the rugs are sturdy outdoor textiles, we store gardening supplies in the closet, and there is space near the doors to provide a nursery for seedlings that need to be hardened up before going outside.

I think the plant corner will be great when some of those plants are taller, although I'm browsing on a phone so I haven't got the size to see if those things are even real plants. Maybe get a plant that falls rather than rising, though, and hang it high up.

There's a dicksonia antarctica tucked in there that grows to 10ft outside, but usually only 6 ft inside, a standard-issue monstera deliciosa that is but a baby yet, give it a few years and it'll live up to its name, and an arabica coffee plant that's tripled in size since July when I got it, and will make a nice shrubby tree size. There's no way that everything stays as compact in that corner as it is now, but I'm not panicking about where it all goes until it does the growing. I'm just really glad I didn't give into my basest instincts and get a ruffled fan palm. (Yet.)

The color is way too bright for me personally to exist in (blue and green and yellow for me plzz.....MAYBE coral) but if you get a million more paintings on the wall it won't be quite so promininent.

I love it, it's a great use of color in a world where everyone seems to want to paint things shades of greige. The plants especially are a great contrast to the walls!

I would be physically unable to use those stairs. I have a phobia (?) of riserless stairs, elevated areas without handrails, and transparent floors, so a set of clear acrylic riserless stairs without handrails is basically tailor made to paralyze me. And I adore Idlewild's office.

too bad because those giant lamps are cool - they are by an old British company called Anglepoise, who are well known for making very high quality desk lamps. That is the novelty version of course and will run you about 6k. They will also terrify you in the middle of the night I'd imagine. I had recommended them to a friend who wanted a pink desk lamp. https://www.anglepoise.com/shop

the plants and the art work really well here, only thing I'd mention is that the chair is really similar to the wall color, so it's kind of camouflaged. If you want it to really stand out, an earth tone might be good - something similar to the rug color. I also agree that you are going to need more on the wall since the color is so bright and striking. Otherwise people will have their attention constantly brought to the paint.
