Which sucks because I don't like the Air wedge shape or name.

It's all fantasy, remember?

That’s because the 12” MB was a worse product than the Air in many ways at the time. It’s not the branding, it’s that the Air was more powerful, more versatile for an average user, and $300 cheaper.

The MB had a Retina display and a sleeker look, but otherwise it had a much worse keyboard, one weird port that nobody at the time used, and the performance of an at-the-time four year old Air. It’s fanless, but the Intel CPU in it gets HOT.

Blame it being a poo poo product, not the name.

but that would be a 14-inch laptop, of course.

i had to run into staples very quickly recently and happened to walk past the microsoft surfacebook go 12-inch. wish i could have justified being in the store for more than two minutes because it looks awesome. i’d never buy one but it does make me hope that apple brings the 12-inch model back with actual performance

Nah, just rename the Air and then I will have my Space Gray Son-Of-Polycarb-BlackBook and it will be twice as powerful as my rMBP, and I will have my ür-MacBook.

(Also make the space gray a little darker pls, more like the Watch Space Gray than the iPhone Space Gray)

i love small laptops but on the complete other hand I have barely left my house in 8 months & almost everyone I know who chose thin/light/low power now regrets it. I just really, really hated the 12" Macbook though, because people had expectations for how <a mac of any type> should perform & it didn't meet them.

oh yeah dont get me wrong i love the form factor, if they release one that will actually work i'd have no issues with it. i just hated it because people bought it expecting to USE it, and they couldn't.

a silent one that would happily drive an ultrawide monitor at home & then pick up and still be functional with 12-20 battery hours & charge off a usb-c antec power brick? :getin:

OneDrive sync, just idling, is using like 700mb on my M1 (Air, entry level).

Uses 65mb on wife's 2019 13" Pro.

I understand it's not a native M1 app yet (Office beta is though) but that's kind of...excessive, no?

This machine is ridiculous, though. $899 for the future, today? Yes please.

vv edit: RAM

I wish Apple would make a 15 inch Air. Something with a big screen with a lot of real estate but as light as possible. The M1 would mean not giving up a lot of power for that.

If you’ve never seen a group shot of every iPod color ever produced, it’s kind of amazing just how many different shades of lime green and turquoise and red and so forth Apple produced.

There are like three generations of Mk4 iPod Shuffle that are all the same rough complement of candy colors, but each set is subtly different from the others and you wouldn’t notice unless you had them all in front of you to compare.

Tangent from Apple gaming discussion - That seems very unfair to Among Us. It was a tiny indie team working on next to no budget. No money equals no marketing equals a tough time getting noticed and making sales, despite which they were doing well enough to make plans for Among Us 2 even before the twitch popularity explosion. And once it took off on Twitch, well, there's your marketing department.

i'm not throwing shade on the team or the game. it's a great game and their success is well deserved. i'm just saying apple had absolutely nothing to do with it so it's weird to hold it up as an apple gaming success

I will say, a really underrated feature of the 16" are the speakers. They're so good. It's crazy how much I notice that using the Air (which doesn't even have bad speakers for its size).

cool, i can do anecdata, too: the usb displayport adapter i have works great

while incompatibility issues with new revisions are a pain, the only time it should matter is if you buy a machine with the new os. rare is it a requirement to update the day of, especially in a corporate setting where they have dock issues like yours.
