actionjackson posted:did you pay someone to do it, and if so how big was the ceiling and how much did it cost? Eh, it's bedroom sized? One king sized bed and a few dressers. We paid a professional plasterer to do it, which is why it is divinely smooth. It was nine years ago and I have no idea what it cost; my ex did the project management on that one. But still, nine years on and every time I look at it, it makes me happy, so good investment.

How many days out of the year is that courtyard even usable? It's 40 stories up and facing Lake Michigan. I imagine it would be windy as gently caress even when it's not freezing.

The Zillow search term of the day is "Quaker". https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/229-Balance-Meeting-Rd-Peach-Bottom-PA-17563/246002099_zpid/ like many 18th-early 19th century houses this one has a fireplace in every room (save the bathrooms, which were obviously added long after it was built in the mid-18th century). The heating radiator was invented in 1855. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/19010-Guinea-Bridge-Rd-Purcellville-VA-20132/12423930_zpid/ original structure built ca. 1745 + 1850 addition https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/63-Kirk-Rd-Garnet-Valley-PA-19060/9327984_zpid/ built ca. 1682! https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/19300-Pyrite-Ln-Brookeville-MD-20833/97462763_zpid/ original structure ca. 1817 + later addition(s) https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/18483-Silcott-Springs-Rd-Purcellville-VA-20132/12424867_zpid/ original structure built ca. 1791 + several additions. Kaiser Schnitzel posted:I don't love the kitchen, but this house does a great job at looking and feeling like an old house. It's like the Pennsylvania version of A. Hays Town's new old Louisiana houses. That house is a hot mess on a postage stamp (DCNR owns or has easement on almost all of the surrounding land). We looked at it when we were shopping for the current place (it's 10 minutes from here). While it may photograph well it it full of all of the drawbacks of its age (small rooms, convoluted layout, compromises everywhere, heating and cooling problems, limited plumbing, etc) without much upside other than building size and the patios. And have fun keeping that place heated and cooled. There are many better maintained, better modernized homes from that era on better properties all OVER the place around here. There's a reason it's been on the market for literally years.

Do you guys have any recommendations for really high quality blankets/throws? I would like to get something for my bed (it's MN so it gets cold as gently caress here in the winter). I remember PRADA SLUT had a cool blanket but not sure I want to search back through hundreds of pages for it. I had ordered something for my parents at Macy's today, so I looked at their selection, but much of it look like a dead animal.

My grandma redecorated her bedroom in the late 60s, and it had similar wallpaper and bedding. And pink shag carpet. Even in her late 90s she would rake herself into bed each night

Oh JFC, that's the one up the road. Sorry. No, there is something visually almost identical (from thumbnails I guess - except it's actually old) on the towpath of the Delaware canal in Point Pleasant/Carversville. And now I can't find it on Zillow. Maybe they finally did sell it.

Look at Hudson Bay or Pendleton. I’d post some pics but an phone posting.

The Zillow search term of the day is "center chimney". Back in ye olden days the most efficient way to heat a small home (most of the homes in this post have since been enlarged) in a cold climate like New England was to put the chimney in the center, allowing fireplaces and/or stoves in each of the rooms around it. This post brought to you by T H I C C wood and low ceilings https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1069-Tryon-St-South-Glastonbury-CT-06073/174055896_zpid/ Nothing like living on a street named after the guy who built your house in 1780. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3759-Royalton-Tpke-Barnard-VT-05031/2110213231_zpid/ Originally built in 1815, moved from Nova Scotia and rebuilt in Vermont. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/130-School-St-Wellfleet-MA-02667/56793354_zpid/ Hot take: I like painted hardwood. Built ca. 1820 + later additions super nice master bedroom in the wing https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/202-Black-Hill-Rd-Plainfield-CT-06374/112794730_zpid/ Painted patterned hardwood floors are even better.
