I remember all the New Order videos I had downloaded at this time had a drawing of a woman with sunglasses on as a space screen. It reminds me how a lot of scanned images in these days had scanner names on them, porn or not. I downloaded a lot of anime artbooks around this time and they all had like "Goku Scans" or something like that on them.

My Myspace experience is going to a girl i was interested ins page and having terrible music suddenly blaring out at me.

The thing I remember most about my webcomic days, and Megatokyo in particular was "Sorry there's no comic today guys :(" posts. This is from the idiot who spent her early teen money on an "Evil L33t" tshirt and MT Volume 1. I also bought the first volume of the Real Life comic back in 2004 or so but the creator ended up being trans and I feel totally justified in retroactively supporting her so there's that. I know Questionable Content gets mocked a lot on SA but Jeph Jacques did some solid soul searching and ended up doing a lot of trans friendly stuff later on. Plus he's a real cool dude and his dog is great.

Man early 2000s webcomics were totally my jam.

I have like...the first five volumes of Megatokyo, and also three different versions of volume one due to wanting matching sets as he jumped around publishers. I figured he'd land on one publisher and stick with them, but...yeah... :negative: I have several volumes of Penny Arcade as well, but those I don't regret nearly as much because, y'know, the PA guys at least can stick to a drat schedule and not make excuses for themselves.

The story arc where Real Life's creator came out as trans had me teary eyed at the end, I'm not afraid to admit. That was a shockingly beautiful moment that I never would have expected from her.

I miss early to late 2000s webcomics. Most of them were poo poo, but they were my poo poo, dammit.

Did he? It always seemed to me from the way they explained it that they couldn't agree on the direction of the comic so Largo sold his half and broke ties. Granted, knowing everything we know about Piro now, I wouldn't doubt it happened like you said.

Oof. Did he say some trans unfriendly stuff prior?
His current arcs are more about robo-human loving which I find kind of funny in this weird "how can I be more progressive in this world" kind of way.

Vandar posted:

Gallagher basically said Largo wanted randomness humor stuff and as the world developed there was less and less space for that. If you read between the lines a little in his old-rear end newspost, you'll notice he says things like 'my scripting really comes as a result of the art and the actual scripts had little to do with what was going on.'
Which, to me, sounds like Caston was making randoventures in Nihon while Gallagher was getting into deep personal lore about the sentient PS2 fuckdoll (OC Not Chobits) and just not incorporating any of the scripts.

He also mentioned Caston asked for roving zombie hordes and he just never addressed it because ew gross zombie violence.

Anyway, it got to the point where Largo was less and less involved and Gallagher basically said "If I can't do the story the way I want I'll just stop drawing and move on to one of my many half-sketched ideas like Warmth" so Largo agreed on a settlement and left.

It's really bad! Somehow in over 10 years since the original comic, Mookie has not managed to improve his art one iota. It's almost impressive

If by "keeping up" you mean, "skirting his own rules by having characters write things down to communicate the most important information so he doesn't have to convey it visually" then yes.

Also the weird, out-of-place nudity

That storyline was really good and its kept me reading the comic since, though its funny that outside of the generally very good trans joke ones, the comic is otherwise exactly the same it was a decade and a half ago. I know I'm not the only person reading it again and baffled by this and her occasional references to the 'deep lore' of the comic that is complete monkeycheese nonsense that absolutely doesn't fit with the other stuff.
