I like Hasan in small doses. He has lots of fun guests on his streams. Dave Weigel, Ryan Grim, Trihex and Osita Nwanevu all did stuff with him recently. The Ilhan Omar & AOC Among Us stream ruled.

He’s not my favorite on Twitch but he’s become my go to option while I wait for Chapo to come online.

Hasan is incredibly important to exposing left wing talking points to terminally online people who are subjected to right wing rhetoric from everywhere they go other than twitch. The amount of people he's probably turned from reactionary right wing edgelords into a left leaning member of society is probably staggeringly high.

i recall something similar regarding hbomberguy, with stories from someone who works on university campuses finding out that a lot of college-aged dudes that otherwise held right wing opinions got sorted out watching his vids

It's funny because we're kind of truly blessed with Twitch as they have created a platform where their firm and hard stance on poo poo means they're basically the only place on the internet were fascists can't congregate without (real) impunity.

as far as i'm concerned separatism is just something in which anyone can see whatever it is they want to see. leftists see it as a return to the 60s with its nationalization of key infrastructure, breaking the hold of religion on the rest of society, and general social progress. the right sees it as nationalism that pushes away the Other and lets the people that matter be in charge. various business interests are also interested to see what they could get out of this

it just means more infighting but at a smaller scale
It's interesting how many Quebecois Leftists treat seperatism as the obvious left wing position without failing to realize that to many Muslims, Sikhs and Jews have good reasons to be federalists.

effective political strategies for federal canadian leaders: openly and directly meddle in the politics of provinces (you get bonus points if you do this for Alberta or Quebec).

Oh so we're doing politics based on electability then, not because it's the right thing to do? This kind of thinking leads to the NDP dropping everything socialist from their platform and turning into Liberal-lite

I'm mostly just joking around, it would have zero problems with Singh commenting on Alberta, but I get why federal leaders don't want to put their hands directly into an obvious hornet's nest.

like there is absolutely zero practical upside from trying. you'll piss off alberta like crazy (maybe even harming the NDP party there even though they're not really connected to the federal party), no one from ontario will give enough of a gently caress for it to matter, and quebec will get pissed off at the barest suggestion of anyone federal saying anything relating to a province ever.

the alberta government knows its a poo poo sandwich, thats why they are applying this new system only to drunk drivers at first. they want to set a precedent for it before anyone manages to get enough money together for a charter challenge. no one wants to be the champion of drunk drivers

RIP Skydome? Hello condos?

One of the most-iconic pieces of Toronto's skyline — The Rogers Centre — is reportedly set to be torn down and replaced with a newer, smaller version of itself. And maybe also condos.

An explosive piece published by the Globe and Mail Friday morning reveals that Rogers Communications Inc., which purchased the old SkyDome in 2004, is planning to demolish the entire facility and "construct a new stadium as part of a downtown Toronto redevelopment."

The goal is to keep the Toronto Blue Jays (also owned by Rogers) in their longtime home, though unnamed sources told The Globe that the telcom is considering building "a new stadium on a lakefront site" if this reno project falls through.

tearing down a stadium to build a slightly smaller version of a stadium with room to build condos is the most canadian thing possible, i hope rogers is also misreporting it's income to the bank so they can qualify for a larger mortgage. i look forward to the article about how everything went wrong in torontolife
