Nebakenezzer posted:These look like Bs...RAF? Or are they Marine Corps aircraft in RAF markings? Definitely Bs, we were walking the dog when the 3 of them and their tanker came approached over the town. They're ludicrously loud, they blocked out conversation from like a mile out. Cool to see though. If I knew when they were leaving I'd head to the airport.

I bet the demonstration teams will both eventually switch to T-7s

Eventually maybe. I don't think that's on the horizon though.

Well yeah in that transition video the guy says that the super bug will keep them going for another 25 years. Lomarf if it's 2045 and they're still using F/A-18s. Probably all the F-35s will be broken down and at their fatigue life by then anyway

Demo teams should use trainers IMO the Super Hornet looks slow and that roll rate is not crispy.

The RCAF really needs to swap the Tudors the Snowbirds are flying for something newer, T-7 would be a good choice imo.

They're called Tudors because they originally flew for Elizabeth I's air force. Edit - It's actually Tutor, I was thinking of the Avro Tudor which was an airliner. I'm still enjoying the visual of fighter pilots in ruffled collars, though. Fornax Disaster fucked around with this message at 20:53 on Nov 27, 2020 |

Oops yeah Tutors MrYenko posted:How many separate procurement programs do you think it would take to get that done? Three? Four? I think there have been programs since the 00s that have been in the investigation stage that have been cancelled/resumed with at least one life extension program for the Tutors in that time. That one has them going until 2030 at which time the youngest Tutor will be 64 years old.

One of the Tutors killed people last year though, that's probably added a tiny bit of urgency to the search. It will probably still take another 20 years, but it's better than the 35 it would take otherwise

FuturePastNow posted:could they paint an F-35 blue without ruining its skin somehow? There's no real reason to keep the skin intact, since the Blue Angel's tend to use their planes for the useful life of the aircraft. Except for that weird "these planes can be combat ready in xx hours" thing they do.

Warbird posted:Dig out some Tomcats and paint those fuckers blue Actually do this instead I had a VHS tape of Blue Angels: Around the World at the Speed of Sound that I absolutely wore out watching over and over as a kid. One thing I always noticed was in one of the pilot's offices there was a model of a formation of Blue Angels F-14s. Other alternate history I read in some book was that after the A-4s the A-7 Corsair II was considered for demo duty, and pilots that evaluated it said it would have been an excellent air show aircraft.
