the cynic in me is that a general was picked so that the arguments of "the army is apolitical" and "support are troops" would apply any future failure, perceived or otherwise

ZZ for short

I was trying to find something but couldn’t, maybe somebody here can help me. I vaguely remember watching a questionably racist Canadian TV short from the late 90s, maybe early 2000s, that was set on an airplane. It had a little girl that was being taught to fly the plane, I think, and a few minority characters. I remember it being extremely tone deaf, especially in regards to 9/11. I forget if it was traditional animation or puppets or something else.

Does anybody have any idea what the hell I’m talking about?

when i lived in london for a year doing my masters one of my professors tried to recruit me into their cult. i went to the meetings because the food was pretty good (for a cult) but they didn't get me in the end. i also saw a man dead in a ditch once when walking to school. at least i think so? it was very cold out and he was basically collapsed in a snow bank. other people were tending to him so i did not interfere. i assume it was a serial killer.

thats my London Ontario story.

they called it "philosophical meetings" and acted like it was a normal university club or something. we would meet at a house near Western and there would be a presentation on some kind of metaphysical subject like "what is consciousness?" and then a discussion afterwards about what everyone thinks. during the presentation there would be lots of quotes from famous philosophers and religious leaders and the bible, koran, vedas, etc. but sprinkled in there would be quotes from this weird prophet guy i never recognized; his quotes wouldn't say anything too controversial, but he was framed to be on the same tier as jesus/muhammed/buddha. after the debates there would be a big spread of party foods and people would mingle. it was vegan, but they were also really good cooks.

i honestly didnt even clue in until one person said "i don't know why people call us a cult!" at like the third meeting (it was once a week). then i realized there was about 10% of us that were "newbies" but 90% the vast majority of people at these "philosophical meetings" were "long term" members that seemed to know each other very intimately outside of this club. i could tell there was some kind of inner circle they were prepping me for or something. i kept going for like 5 more meetings because i liked the food and one of the girls in the cult was hot.

Farther west, Hamilton Police announced they had charged three men — aged 26, 48 and 72 — at a “Hugs over Masks” protest in the city’s downtown area on Sunday.

Police said 35 people attended the event, exceeding the maximum number of people allowed at outdoor gatherings.

“Prior to the event, Hamilton Police identified the organizer and informed him that the planned gathering would breach offences under the Reopening Ontario Act and leave him open to charges, police said in a written statement. “The organizer went ahead with the event.”

All three men — one of whom police said was the organizer — were charged under the Act, and would face a fine of at least $10,000 if convicted.

I forget who was comparing the leftist activists being arrested in Hamilton to the lack of COVID enforcement but holy poo poo they actually did it. I'm completely shocked.

The problem is, sometimes they’re the exact same. Ed Greenwood, creator of the Forgotten Realms (the biggest D&D setting) lives in Lindsay, and his work is often Ontarian as gently caress.

There’s a town named Kossuth after some Hungarian politician as an example. In the Forgotten Realms, Kossuth is the god of fire. Knowing that Ed (and most creatives) take good names from wherever they find them, I suspect he picked it out of a road map.

This Is probably a profoundly stupid question, but what exactly is or has been the government stance on immigration? We’ve been slowly increasing numbers for a couple decades now (~300,000 in 2016), so it’s clear several governments are pro-, but what is the reason?

We are certainly not doing this to be nice. Is this to prop up the housing industry? To create demand for goods in order to stimulate the economy? Who is employing all of these people when we are looking towards policies like UBI to offset the loss of jobs that comes with automation? Does it even matter?

Is there even a rationale besides more people = more good?

The media only discusses this issue in terms of racist attitudes regarding foreigners, and even the Harper government only feigned to try to increase the proportion of European immigrants. They still never limited it iirc, despite cries from their base. So, why?
