I keep getting recommended videos by The Quartering about how The Mandalorian triggers SJWs and Kathleen Kennedy is totally gonna get fired from Disney. I've hit ignore multiple times and told youtube to stop recommending me his garbage but he keeps popping up. Anyone got a firefox extension to block specific channels? I've given up on my phone youtube app doing its job right but at least I can get some utility out of my desktop browser.

I just hope for the best for everyone and they figure out a way to distract Michael from taser ideas.

I’m pretty sure most of the otv people if not all are actually all cool with Fed again it’s just that yeah they won’t ever work together like that anymore or live together. At least from the pokimane explanation stream as well as lilypichu’s stream as well.

Eh, don't care for this take. You get out of communities what you put into them. If your hope is to just set up a Discord and then forget about it, yeah of course it'll go to poo poo. Online communities need effective and engaged moderation to function.

It seems like the best way to be a professional on youtube is to not make a sanctioned space for fans to interact and to not acknowledge them at all—which is basically what old media has always done and seems good for preserving a person’s sanity.

However, I could only imagine what a nightmare existence it would be to mod for a server that's like 10k

Thing is, if you're a mod for a community that size, what you really are is a Community Manager who isn't getting paid to do their job. Which is, like, fine for unofficial fan communities, but should not be fine for any space officially under the umbrella of a media company or personality. Edit: and to be clear, I understand why a smaller company or individual wouldn't be interested in that deal. I just don't like Olly framing it as "oh, they're more trouble than their worth cause someone always kicks off drama," as if there isn't a direct causal link between that happen and poor moderation. the thing is that even past the obvious horrific racists and homophobes that litter discord that obviously everyone wants gone, you have to deal with the idiot who keeps posting NSFW images in places that aren't supposed to have them, or the kid who doesn't get that he's getting trolled and gets insanely mad and starts fights, or the person shilling some random site or paid service or the guy who can't loving stop pinging the mods every 15 minutes for stupid bullshit oh my god it's the worst and even thinking about it makes me want to drink

I modded the Contrapoints discord for about a month three years ago and quit because it was a miserable experience due to most of the users being unpleasant in addition to the other mods/admins being dicks.

I was once doing a little pay-per-post job on some tiny political forum. I think it had like 10 posters, probably half of us all paid to kickstart it. I ended up asking for mod powers to be nice because even this tiny little space would get hit by drive-by random porn posts and ad-spam. I can't imagine any forum, space or server with a real footprint.

There's a point at which a community becomes too big to regulate itself mostly through the interpersonal pressure of everyone involved being good friends (with maybe one or two people volunteering to deal with spam and maintenance) and becomes somewhere that needs a loosely-defined process for dealing with conflict. A lot of communities fall apart trying to make the former solution work indefinitely, because the latter is hard and risks upsetting some implicit internal hierarchy.

This is something all of youtube (and related content folks everywhere) seems to struggle with, that grey area where it's just a side-hustle and you can still be friends with everyone vs. the transition full career and the additional boundaries that come along with that. I don't envy anyone attempting to navigate that minefield without blowing a significant chunk of their personal relationships. Oh okay lol, just worried because it seems like every other day someones trying to cancel the MceIlroys over something or other.
