I remember something about this coming up when Arnold was governor, that he owned a few widebody jet aircraft (or a company that leased them which is probably more correct), to operate by leasing them to air cargo carriers/airlines...

Catholics know the church is poo poo. They're largely comparable to republicans because they're well aware of all the churchs' dirty laundry but they still go tithe on sunday. Also because of the child molesting and pedophile protection.

Pretty sure that republican from Illinois that raped kids as a wrestling coach was a catholic. E: Hastert

Seminary dropout here, I was supposed to be a Jesuit until I realized I liked money and women more than a free PhD.

Liberation theology Catholics (Jesuits mostly, American Nuns), can be OK, but the majority of those are non-practicing, or the Christmas/Easter church crowd. They also have a tendency to split off and not have a voice in the larger insane American Catholic churn. American Catholicism has been irrevocably poisoned by the evangelical revivals of the 30s and later 70s in the US, and most of their theology is insanely warped by this.

At this point I have a plethora of "the why did I see this horrible thing" to respond with when people try to tell me about a benevolent god.

Not even my mother had pushed me since I told her about the mentally challenged girl getting kicked out of a christian shelter specifically to protect women like her in the Winter because she was a prostitute.

She was so challenged she wasn't verbal, and was tricked into a crack addiction so she would turn tricks, but that was a sin that they felt comfortable condemning her to death for. So to me thats christianity.

Believe women.

Raised Catholic, quit when the priest in Enterprise, AL ran off with a parishioner in 2004. That was the final straw for me. Occasionally I listen to Catholic Radio on the way to work and the only things they are worried about are abortion, sex outside of marriage, gay people, and the Church's Authority. Nothing about any of the outreach to people who need help. It's not a religion, it's a club.

I will say that I prefer Catholicism to evangelical protestantism in that at least Catholics acknowledge how lovely people are, can feel guilt, and don't act smug and "saved" because they said the right magic words about Jesus.

But I'm not giving more money to an organization that has to pay out hundreds of millions of dollars because they actively covered up sexual abuse perpetrated by the clergy.

another game at nationwide arena. everybody keeps asking me if they can fuck the cannon. buddy, they don't even let me fuck it

There was one batch of Catholic schools in the town I grew up in, but most of the kids turned out normal. That said, there were rumors that they were partying at a college level (i.e., party favors vs. the typical high school drinking antics) and supposedly there was some sex games competition students secretly took part in senior year.

My boss is Catholic and, aside from having as many kids as possible, he's not too bad or overt about it.

Our former Administrative Assistant, however, was also Catholic, and Jesus Christ, I thought devout Christians were bad. This family and the people surrounding them were straight out of Central Casting: half the boys in their Inner Circle were named Joe or some derivative thereof, there was excessive gushing and pissing matches over Catholic schools they had to fork over thousands of dollars to attend and which one(s) they went to, there was in office coordination of fish fries during Lent, the boys all loved Notre Dame, and she hated Obama's guts.

Jewish here...ya'll got a lot of issues.

I think I ended my wife caring for Catholicism (well and her parent's turbo conservatism). She just wanted to be able to still do Christmas and Easter eggs...and that's cool, Christmas decorating and trees, cookies, and Charlie Brown are super fun. She also never wanted to convert and she was fine with the kids being raised Jewish...and I was like cool no problem.

Last I checked how was the Iraqi and Syrian program going?

I don't mean to sound as ungodly snarky as it comes off as, but with quotes I've seen from arms control experts (ie Jeffery Lewis) they seem to not want to be able to admit that it does delay the program. I understand they have a vested interest in promoting negotiated non proliferation, but I feel like they could be a little more honest about it. Say this will slow it down, but this is bad for these reasons. I mean someone pointed out that after previous Iranian assassinations that Iran stepped up police protection and surveillance of all the scientists...which made their lives living hell (which I can't imagine is good for work).

Okay I've made my peace about it.

The religions themselves are just mythology. Most of them have cool stories, and decent moral guidance. So does Frank Miller's Batman, but I don't try and make everyone live by it's bullshit.

Their followers create the problem. It's not like we have followers of the Temple of Apollo trying to waterboard out the gay.

Ask the MIT professor, but its worth noting that Israel's and the US's violent attempts have done nothing more than provide minor delays versus the Iran Negotiations which had measurable and fast acting effects.

What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? That's pretty much the US and Israeli strategy at this point. The reality is, while the delay effect is visible, in reality is just strengthens their resolve no matter the delay.

Well, here's how the Iraqi program went: The US government said that actually Iraq was building weapons of mass destruction and had to be stopped, and then the US launched a ground invasion and toppled the regime 30 years after the Osiraq strike. So according to the US at the time, the strikes did not ultimately work and only an escalation to full war and occupation would suffice. The US would later acknowledge that this was complete bullshit.

But I appreciate that we can admit it does delay things, even if we disagree on the potential long term effect.

Not by enough to actually make the delay worthwhile, no. Its a strategy made by people who don't understand how to actually get things done and thinking flexing military might makes you a geopolitical genius.

Again, if you think otherwise, go correct the MIT Professor whose entire job is studying Nuclear Proliferation, he doesn't think it works.

Depending on what we do, some actions are better then others no doubt. But I also feel like we take the Iranians at their face value (not saying conversely you take the other side at face value either).

But that said I figured Syria's is considered dead now, though without the civil war, it's perhaps unfair to say how much sending back lead lined coffins did to overall slow it down.

It's also kind of pointless to look at the effect an action had on Syria and then presume to apply that to Iran without looking at things like the overarching strength, population, and reach of influence of Iran. For the past few decades they have possessed a lot more capability to stir poo poo up without going for nukes than the Syrians do or did.

Technically, yes, it delays the program in the very short term. In the long term it provides motivation to accelerate the program and make it more robust. One step back, two steps forward.
