If it had to go for that twist, then for once in a piece of media I'd like if there was no unpaid-debt stuff, just a reason for a nobody to be a bad-rear end. Bob Odenkirk and the amazing-looking action sequences are going to carry even the cliched story, I just wish it wasn't cliched.

The trailer is what turned people around on him. IIRC, Warner Bros. put the trailer out earlier than they had planned to get people to stop hating on Keaton.

I have to say, I am pretty curious about the rumors that Keaton will play Thomas Wayne Batman from Flashpoint. Which between that and Vulture makes the entire premise of Birdman hilariously prescient.
