Could the below be fixed in the app as well? Trying to scroll horizontally is almost impossible in this app.

In the meantime, what seems to help for me is to swipe on only about half the screen, from the middle outward. That is, if I want to scroll to later characters in the line, start with my thumb slightly to the left of middle and swipe towards the left edge of the display. If I want to scroll back to earlier characters, start with my thumb slightly to the right of middle and swipe towards the right edge of the display. That seems to help stop the app from expecting navigation swipes (at least in my quick minute of messing with it).

E: eh, it helps some, but it's still pretty tough

I'm not sure how this is different from what the app does?

I tried to download an image that was uploaded as an SA attachment (a curse on anyone that still does this) and it sat there and did nothing..tried it again, same result. So I opened it in the browser and saved it from there.

Twenty minutes later Download Manager helpfully let me know that both attempts "Failed".

Pretty minor thing I guess, but figured I should mention it.

I'd be fine with Jeffrey removing the SA attachment feature entirely. We're not an image host and there's plenty of free image hosts out there.

For me the annoying thing is that if I want to share a dank meme posted as an SA attachment, outside of SA I have to go and download it first and upload it elsewhere because those direct links don't work properly, at least when you send them to someone without an account.

I can try, this was the post in question: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?action=showpost&postid=510057471

Hitting Download just closed the menu and let me browse as normal, no real response until much later when Download Manager popped up in the Android notification tray and said that it failed.

Pixel 3a, Android 11 with the November update.

Buuut I just had a thought and figured it out. For some reason Blockada stops it from working. Oops.

Personally I'd like to see it reworked and hosting images on e.g. amazon s3 instead.

I had that yesterday on P4, but thought it was tied to a glitchy system-webview update process on the Play Store. Battery took a big hit from other apps, too.

Android system webview update finally worked instead of forever-pending last night, so we'll see today.

I am stupid, and probably also inexcusably lazy. I paid to the forum, not to you, to have private messages, and someone who is expressing urgency wants to send me a message, because they think they have an important and private thing to share with me. I can't see how to enable this in the application. Forgive me for being dense. I'm working from a phone.

I appreciate your efforts. I understand that you're not compensated. I thank you for your time, and for what you do.

If you've just added platinum for private messages on the forums, the app can take a moment to refresh. In the app, go to Settings, Account, Refresh Account Features. You should then see "Private Messages" in the menu of the app.

Go into one of the options tabs in the usercp page on the website and you can turn them on or off there. Don’t remember which off the top of my head but click around and you’ll find it.

In meteorology, vorticity often refers to a measurement of the spin of horizontally flowing air about a vertical axis.
I just discovered you can't close threads with the app. I had to go to the actual site. No big deal, but I'm reporting the bug.

Just switched from an iphone to a Pixel 5, so obviously using the Awful app now. One thing I miss from using it on iphone, is I could long press on any image that was posted, and one of the options would be share, and I could directly share that image via text message on my phone. Now with the Android version, I have to download the image and then attach it like a normal picture message, or I have to share the URL, which obviously isn't the same as just sharing the pic.

Is there a way to quickly share the image like on the apple version that I'm simply overlooking?

Under settings > posts, at the bottom, you can turn off always open links. Then a single click will give you a menu with a Share Url button. Might be what you're looking for?

I will say a way to have "always open links" for single press and hold-down for that menu would be awesome.

Edit: I can't read, sorry. I see where you said share url wasn't the same. :downs:

I'm dumb but is there a CSS or setting that makes it work more like the iOS version in layout? I like to browse the forums on my stupid 16:9 S7 in landscape but posts are too drat wide.

I'd like to keep the forum thread listing on the left 1/3rd of the screen so actual posts are displayed in a more boxy format on the right? Is this making any sense?

Unfortunately not. It will sort of show both when you want to change threads but once you hit a thread it's back to super Ultra wide post view.

Hey, it looks like imgurs recent addition of mandatory ads while uploading has also broken the built in imgur function on the awful app. Maybe the api is different now, I didn't take a look. But trying to upload an img to imgur through the awful app just gives an error.
