I wrote a thing about the state of the Tether that has proven weirdly popular.

Elaborating on this blog post, which theorises that the crypto industry will do anything to keep Tether afloat, as it's utterly dependent on it.

I wrote a too-long rambling comment on your blog but beg forgiveness as I spent a week at the nervous hospital getting two ECT treatments on alternating days. I’m also back on 45 mgs of Haldol and not the clearest mind in the world. I have my copy of your new book on my nightstand as we post, though, and will dive in with the joy and exuberance I showed your previous book. I’m a big fan of your style, but do admit I missed the vampire avatar :argh:.

I think you're wrong saying "I suspect the other stablecoins are just a bit too regulated for the gamblers. Tether is functionally unregulated." - it is the opposite - Tether has got the (undeserved) trust of the markets because it's big, all other stablecoins are also unregulated and are just altcoins made for pump and dump schemes too.

Being back on Haldol makes me sleepy and it’ll be harder to consistently set aside time to read, but I’ve had treatments for a few years now and am pretty constant on the timing of aftereffects. very excited to read it!

How about this one, for example?

it doesn't matter when you told people to buy, bitcoiners on the forums have a poor record for when to sell. and if the answer to that is to sell never and it is too late to buy then your best case is a capitalist hellscape.
hope that gets covered in the blog.

It's never too late to buy, and it's always too early to sell. Only divest from fiat the amount you can't afford to lose.

Yes. Part of the reason I'm waiting till next year to sell the 4btc and buy the coop is that I don't want it on this year's taxes. It gives my wealth another year to appreciate in value before I have to pay that hefty tax bill.

The other part of the reason is that 4btc will be worth 100-120k when I sell it.

slashdot are running a poll asking people what they reckon the price of bitcoin will be at the end of december: https://slashdot.org/poll/3188/on-december-31-2021-the-price-of-bitcoin-will-be. some of the comments are...well...

bitcoin has value because it's like water in a pipe???

https://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=17759704&cid=60818700 posted:

This isn't true. Think of bitcoins as "working fluid". There are people who want to do semi-anonymous, illegal transactions. Bitcoins provide some protection and ability to do these transactions. Therefore, you have a certain number of buyers of bitcoin wanting to move money, and sellers wanting to cashout the money that was "pumped". Like a fluid in a piping system. And there is a delay of time while the money is being washed to make it less obvious who the recipient is.

So if on the average day, 1 million dollars was being pumped around, and it took exactly 1 day to wash the coins, and there were just 1000 bitcoins available for trading, each bitcoin needs to be worth $1000. If the price is lower than that, it will rise, and vice versa.

Actually it does have inherent value. Is it as high as the current speculated value? Probably not, but the value is not zero.

apparently USD requires more computational power than bitcoin, also porn uses more CPU than bitcoin so it doesn't matter???

https://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=17759704&cid=60811480 posted:

not true, the energy for computation done for the U.S. dollar dwarfs bitcoin. Some here misunderstood an ieee article about bitcoin's lower consumption, it's negligible compared to many things like finance (bitcoin is a game token not currency as it fails to meet definition) or porn. It doesn't matter.

this one is good though:
