For purposes of determining if your student loans should be forgiven you stop being middle class at $125k.

Lowry probably forgot that women couldn't fight in the Confederate Army too. The Confederate Army had between 750,000 and 1,000,000 non-slave members by our best estimates, many of whom were conscripts (but "I fought for the Confederacy because I was literally forced to" doesn't support his argument as well, nor does the fact that defectors from the Confederate Army numbered at least 100,000). The total white population of the Confederate states in 1860 was 5,582,222. 48.6% of those, or 2,712,960, were men. 52% of *those*, or 1,410,739, were between the ages of 15 and 59. So those "few select areas" contained between 1/3 and 1/2 of all the men of fighting age in the Confederacy. Nice try, though, Lowry. (Also, the article's from June 2015, but that seems neither here nor there.) I'd love to see someone propose a Constitutional amendment that made it illegal to display memorabilia from any group that engaged in active rebellion or insurrection against the US. It would be abused to hell and back the first time conservatives got the chance, but I like imagining the apoplexy (in both senses of the word) it would cause. I would be more inclined to be charitable and read it as a complaint about the very shallow lip service type of identity based appeals made by established liberal politicians and public figures. Or things like rainbow capitalism. Though I also probably wouldn't really describe it that way if I was picking the words, because I think it incorrectly centers the existence of identity driven politics (of the non-class variety) as the reason why those identities are targeted for co-option by the establishment, which I think is needlessly close to just outright blaming them.

I wrote it in response to an IOSM claiming landlords were an oppressed minority group? It was literally someone using the language of leftist identity politics as a weapon against class solidarity. Edit, not an IOSM, but related to what we were just talking about.
