Yeah, the Nexus is great, even if you don't care about Star Trek. It's a show in and of itself. Their Bones being super into lovely late 90's and early 2000's rock and metal like Korn and Limp Bizkit as if they were classical music is one of my favorite running gags they've ever done on any of their shows.

The LOTR episode has had me laughing for the last two hours and there's still another left.

The vomiting sounds the guys were making when talking about the Council of Elrond...loving gold. I have got to stop listening to them in the car, because it's legitimately dangerous.

So no Nexus for you, but you get the We Love Movies episodes, which are pretty much all great. First off, the just released episode for Fellowship of the Ring is an all time great. 3 hours, and every minute is gold. So much content about Gandalf getting stoned out of his mind on Hobbit weed. And everyone vomiting the entire contents of their stomachs upon their first sighting of Hobbits. It's all loving great.

Beyond that, someone else will have to help me out, because I have a hard time remembering what episodes are great. Goldeneye was their first WLM Patreon episode, and I remember really liking it.

Please, allow me. I found this podcast this year in quarantine. Here is how I would introduce it:

https://www.youtube.com/c/ClangersTV/videos
This takes clips of the episodes and puts it to a video. The set-up is a bunch of super left guys in NYC doing a chill podcast, but the joke is also sometimes just "Hi I'm Michael Douglas and I'm gay" in a lovely impression. It's better than it sounds. Watch these vidyas and see if you like it.

They 'satire' stuff so hard sometimes that isolated pieces can come off really problematic, don't let that dissuade you?

Yeah I just watched the first bit of the same Titanic video and it's just a bunch of guys talking about spending all of their podcast money on stupid poo poo and laughing annoyingly at their own jokes. I watched the whole clip and didn't find it funny at all. maybe not the best way to get people to listen to your Titanic podcast. Purging this from my history so as to not upset my recommendations and put me on some list.

I think I'm alone in absolutely loving their episode on Bright. I've not seen the movie and never will, but their bits on trying to make sense of the world are fantastic.

"Well if we're going with the established theme, Hitler would have had a real problem with the elves..."

This latest batch of WLM has underlined to me that I really don't care too much about the WLM thing unless it's something they can be truly nerdy (beyond filmmaking nerdery), like Star Wars, Star Trek, Batman, and this latest with LoTR. It's just a lot more fun to me than their stuff on Fargo and Citizen Kane.

Jungle 2 Jungle is top tier. It's absolutely among their best.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but their Citizen Kane episode hasn’t been as funny as their other episodes. To be fair, I’m only half way through it, (because I have been avoiding it) but it just seems like there isn’t as much comedy to mine from great movies. I haven’t started the Fargo episode yet.

It’s still funnier than most other podcasts, though.

They did a personal WLM of mine as a regular WHM (I've been assured that this is okay) and even though I'd been really looking forward to it, I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to. When you love a movie enough to have seen it multiple times you have all your own jokes and insights about it and naturally theirs can't be the same. I found myself getting frustrated that they didn't notice the same things I did. All this to say, I enjoyed the Citizen Kane ep because I haven't seen the movie, but Fargo kind of bored me because I've seen it a lot. It's why I kind of dread their inevitable WLM ep on Jurassic Park, even though I also think it's a great movie for them to cover.

anyone complaining about ads on WHM has never played The Dollop's "skip ahead 9-15 minutes to get past the ads" game.

Time-wise what got me about the Fargo episode was that we were 40+ minutes in before we even started on the movie. Which is fine because 40+ minutes of general goofery and the trailer game is just peachy keen with me, but it was a moment of "holy poo poo they've been going this long?"

To be fair, the last two main feed eps were also almost a full 10 mins before the main theme even kicked in. I don't care much because they put the background music correctly so I can skip to find it but I've definitely noticed the increased length of pre-ep stuff lately.

In terms of ads I think these guys has the best model for it: the background music tells me when I can stop skipping forward.

I actually stopped checking in on the "Blank Check" podcast because the asinine, boring and horrendously overlong "comedy bit/ads" that guy always insisted on. Whenever I heard him go "ding dooooooooooong" I'd physically cringe.

Oh my god, his "ding doooooooooooong" bullshit is the woooooooorst.

It's annoying, because when the Blank Check guys buckle down and actually talk about the loving movie, they can be really interesting and funny. But they seem almost allergic to it.

It doesn't help that a lot of their guests are just not that knowledgeable about the movie or actively encourage the annoying poo poo on Blank Check. However, the recent-ish ep they had on Contact with Jamie Bell was great. To keep it relevant the boys have been on the podcast a few times too.

FOtR, The Firm, Fargo and Citizen Kane were great but some of the other stuff has been leaving me sort of flat, even though I still enjoy listening to it. Seriously beginning to see a strong correlation between me having seen the movie and how much enjoyment I get out of hearing these guys gently caress with it. Which I suppose makes sense and shouldn't be very surprising.

I think that this is kinda the problem with the long episodes these days in that it’s just somehow way easier to engage with the podcast and movie they’re talking about (even if I haven’t seen it) when the episodes are shorter because they just feel more tight. Asking me to sit down for 2:20 on some lovely horror movie I’ll never watch or one of the C-tier Brimley movies is a lot bigger than the same but 1:30-1:40.
