I really wanna know what programs all these dastardly immigrants get chuds believe in. Also ngl, I illegally immigrated to Canada, a country far more open to immigration than the US. (showed up at the border with all my worldly possessions packed into my corolla and swore I was just visiting a now-ex for a week, lived in my ex’s mom’s basement, worked under the table at restaurants for half a year) Eventually I got accepted to a canadian college and became legal by driving 15 minutes into New York State with my acceptance letter in hand and then doing a U-turn and showing canadian customs the letter. Even then, my tuition cost 5x as much as a canadian citizen and a huge portion of that was health insurance because I was required to have health insurance through the college but not allowed to use the resources a canadian citizen gets. It was also illegal for me to work in Canada. During that time the law changed so now if you’re in Canada on a student visa and enrolled in full-time uni or college hours, you can legally work during winter and summer break. At first foreign students had to have good behaviour for a year and then apply and pay for a separate visa to get a job. It sucks to immigrate and I’m from one country over from Canada and speak both their languages. What the absolute gently caress programs in the US of A does freep think illegal immigrants get? There is a pervasive myth that undocumented immigrants get free health care which our taxes pay for by showing up at hospitals and then sneaking out before the bill is paid, which is nonsense for a hundred reasons. Also fascists conflate their myths about wellfare queens with illegal immigrants because theyre all not white even though a significant number of undocumented immigrants are visa overstayers and thus are more likely to be white.

Well, hospitals are required to stabilize someone who shows up even if they can't pay. Of course, I call this less "secret liberal agenda" and more "basic human decency." I have shown up at hospitals and left without paying the bill and have done that multiple times, so I essentially am getting the same free health care that they claim undocumented immigrants are getting. Also, my credit score is abysmal, and every year instead of a state tax refund I just get a letter saying "Your refund has been forfeited to pay the enormous debt you have." But for some odd reason, right wingers don't get mad at me for it.

I remember learning long ago that people who believe in any given conspiracy theory are more likely to believe in a multitude of them, even if they conflict with each other. We have an extremely tenuous relationship with any sort of concept of truth or objective fact. The belief in not wearing masks is the same thing. People don’t want to wear masks because Trump indicated that COVID-19 was not going to be a problem (because he was hoping it would go away without making him look bad or hurt the economy, and he was almost right). Nurses and doctors wear masks every day without any problem, but the facts don’t matter, people start from a standpoint of an unshakeable belief and come up with reasons post-facto to justify their behavior. You cannot argue them into sense on the basis of facts - being intentionally obtuse and spiteful is the point. A couple of years ago I got into an argument with a coworker who was a young earth creationist. My initial thought at the time was “Well, you can believe what you want to believe, this is America.” He was an electrical engineer, though, and it’s a really stupid idea! How can we put people through more than a decade of education and end up with flat earthers, creationists, and people who don’t believe in vaccines? How long until some crazy person goes on a mission to Africa (undoubtedly to minister to people who are already Christian ofc), gets Ebola, and then runs around America telling everyone Jesus saves them and only people who have little faith get sick? We’re already at that point with COVID. It’s killing people, and they ought to know better, but faith is more important. The right of people to believe any stupid idea and act on their beliefs no matter how insane and destructive it is happens to be considered a fundamental right in America. Until we figure out some way to deal with that, we are going to be dealing with this stuff for a long time. Trump getting elected in the first place, I think, was not just plain stupidity and racism. Electing a washed-up failed businessman and game show host who obviously has poo poo for brains as the leader of the free world requires an active and malicious rejection of the whole idea of facts and truth. Believing in insane, esoteric, and intentionally contrarian beliefs is the entire point of it all for right wing Americans. Large chocolate frosty and a baconator, please.

You know people who work their rear end off picking fruits and vegetables so you don't pay at the grocery store. In return sometimes when they have an absolute crisis (like a massive wildfire amidst a pandemic) we can help them with rent or give them a $200 voucher for groceries.

Years ago I'd been sick all weekend and as a result hadn't been eating. I went to work Monday and during the shift I passed out. I was sent to the clinic for a drug screen per company policy, but they refused to see me till I had been checked out for injuries from hitting the floor at the hospital. 8 hours of sitting in the ER and finally being looked at. Tests, tests and more tests. About 12 days later I get the bill. $5,000 for all the tests and poo poo. Thankfully I had insurance which lowered it to a "mere" $1,300. Then a week after that got a bill for the cardiology scans while there for another $500 that insurance fully covered. So for a simple fall I was staring down $5,500 without insurance HAHAHAHAHA You know this guy's a loving brain dead moron because California is red.
