You see, in order to get Zizek you really need to read Lacan. But I know what you're thinking: Lacan is rambling gibberish, how can I be expected make sense of this? Well, good news. They finally cracked the code: https://twitter.com/betonniste/status/1338991098824445953

Zizek seems to genuinely like Virgil for some reason. Normally he can barely hide his contempt for whoever is interviewing him.

yea I genuinely wouldn't be shocked if he just likes the nice boy who seems to genuinely care about political analysis as a concept. Like, if you were in a field full of so many dishonest hacks it'd not be surprising to like the guy who just genuinely wants to ask you a question, listen to your answer, and use that as a springboard and all

Zizek asking Virgil to terrorize him a bit was just adorable. He needs to be in the next Tabletop session. He'd rant about the concept of initiative being an illusion and storm out bored, but it'd be great.

Loved this too. I think Virgil’s deadpan “it’s healthy” might have gone over Zizek’s head tho unfortunately. The Kingfish fucked around with this message at 02:40 on Dec 19, 2020 |

Maybe the translation is terrible but Lacan is unreadable in English, like even worse than Derrida. There is an English writer called Bruce Fink who explains what he was on about in fairly clear terms. Just putting that out there in case someone punishes themselves for no reason trying to read Lacan, you will have a bad time if you do.

Virgil: "I don't wear a mask" Briahna: "Does your risk taking attitude gives you insight to the behavior of trump supporters?" Virgil: "I do wear a mask. Please don't get mad at me." The bad faith interview was good too.

Zizek’s book in Lacan is good too even if he completely ignores half of what Lacan was saying.
