I had almost forgotten what it was like to read good Legion comics. When they started to ultragrim at the end of Levitz's run around 1989, it was worrying. The Bierbaum/Giffen stuff was horrendous, incomprehensible, and lasted over three years. When the books split, things improved but not by that much. And Legion was baffling while Legionnaires never seemed to figure out what it wanted to do. Reboot Legion? Okay, I actually think I like Waid's second run when he does the Threeboot better, but these are some nice comics to read. They're just good, solid superhero comics. I feel like I've been through the desert reached the promised land. I've never read this era of Legion before either and I'm hoping it stays solid until the next cancellation and reboot. But I guess when one is up, the other must be down. L.E.G.I.O.N. really went off the rails at the end and R.E.B.E.L.S. is not great. Doesn't help that their arch-enemy is an infant, and I'm really concerned that they're going to try to redeem him after he decided the solution to ethnic strife was ethnic cleansing. I'm still baffled what Kirby was on about with the whole Spider-Man thing. He had a ton of good points where Lee clearly hosed him, and then there's Spider-Man where his entire argument seemed to be that because he drew unused concept art that doesn't remotely resemble the published version he created Spider-Man? It's like a reverse Bill Finger.

Looking at it you can also buy most Image titles through the Google Play app store, so if you're sharing the account with whoever you're buying them for you could do it that way too. With like an emailed link to the already purchased items so they could download them.

Ehh, I meant the Google account you use to buy things through the app store. I'm not sure if there's a way to gift something to a different account. Although looking more closely Monstress volume 1 isn't on there, I was just clicking random Image titles on their web page to see what purchase methods were available. It is on Comixology though. Edit, it looks like Image lets you download DRM free back-ups through comixology so you could put them on an SD card or something if you wanted something you could wrap and put under the tree. You work in a field your peers don't really respect, but it lets you be creative and pays the bills, and then you get slammed by the adoration of your fans who declare you the greatest creative voice in history. Then you marinate in that for a while, and you start thinking that you are the greatest ever, held back by the philistines among the elite, and that's when you start to get weird. The slights magnify, the influence of your collaborators shrinks, and your ego grows. Like Gene Roddenberry, where Trek conventions reinforced his belief that he was a visionary for years, so that by the time he came back for TNG's first season, he was making insane proclamations about how "in the future, there will be no interpersonal conflict!"

I was being pretty literal. Kirby had dementia by the time his most famous interview slamming Lee was published, and his wife had to get him back on topic and remind him of details several times during it. That doesn't mean everything he said should be dismissed out of hand, but it certainly shouldn't be taken as 100% factual either.

The other day I was reading DC's Tales from the Dark Multiverse one shots, where they take an event and change it to make things go wrong. I got to the one for Infinite Crisis and all I could think was man, I hope Lou didn't read this one. Because it has Ted Kord living instead of getting killed by Max Lord. He takes over Checkmate (after killing Max Lord,) defuses the problems leading up to Infinite Crisis and figures out how to stop the event itself. However he decides that heroes are the problem with the world and they have to be removed so he merges with Brother Eye and turns every hero into OMACs. Also Booster Gold dies trying to stop him.

Wow, I can't believe you thought of me! Yup, I bought it, along with DCeased: A Good Day to Die, where Beetle, Booster, Mister Miracle, and Barda are all killed by zombies. I try to buy every Beetle and Booster appearance that is more significant than just them standining in a group shot. I know Beetle appears in at least one issue of The Terrifics (#27?), where he's on the cover. Not sure how large a role he has in that. And then there's a short, comedic story in some DC Cyborg Summer Special? I balked at the $10 cover price for that one. I read Heroes in Crisis and would kill to own the original Clay Mann art of that two-page spread (or at least a print; you can guess the one I mean), but I never liked how Tom King wrote Booster as such a ding-dong. I marked out when Ted showed up to rescue and help his bro, though.

Well, you are the biggest Ted Kord fan on the forums and that issue is all about Ted. The Tales from the Dark Multiverse stories are interesting but hamstrung by the fact that they have to end bad. Which means they normally proceed like a regular Elseworlds but then when it comes time for the hero to stand up they instead fail.
