I think my vr use has resulted in a strange brain glitch that I only notice sometimes while using a flatscreen computer monitor. If chrome freezes while I'm scrolling down on a website and the screen does not scroll even though I've made the scroll wheel gesture, my brain interprets this as meaning that my head has been rapidly tilted up. For reference I've put around 2k hours into smooth locomotion VR games and my brain is deeply accustomed to the idea of navigating through visual reality through inputs from my fingers into a device I'm holding.

The physical sensation is essentially identical to when head tracking in VR decouples from actual head movement.

Has anybody else experienced something along these lines? It's not a problem and it occurs infrequently but it's profoundly weird.

Yes - I ran into something similar when I was using VR at work during the day. it messed with my proprioception in strange ways. It went away after a short period, though.

anyone know how the hell you can get netflix and elite dangerous to play nicely together? I tried using OVRdrop, but it’d just give me a black screen. subtitles would show, but no actual video

The general consensus seems to be that Netflix's DRM is on some other poo poo. Back to :filez: it is then

Use Firefox for Virtual Desktop streaming, or any kind of streaming while in VR.

Pistol Whip is $20 on Steam right now. If you're a Quest user, you probably want to buy it on Quest store instead because wireless owns bones and you do not want any latency in this game.

I have it on Steam and play wirelessly with the Quest 2 just fine, I get more latency with Link

Is this through Virtual Desktop? That sounds amazing but I get lag streaming through steamlink wirelessly in my home, I can't imagine I'd have much luck trying this wirelessly.

In my experience Virtual Desktop in VR works way better (close to perfect for me) than steamlink on tablets or whatever, don't ask me why

seriously, thanks a ton for the help. new stuff that doesn’t have a billion answers on google can be frustrating. now I can watch spaceships (the expanse) while I fly spaceships (ED) :D

Yes its through VD. So long as I restart my PC before a VR session everything runs butter smooth for me

Is latency with Link something that will be improved? I'd like the better resolution of the quest 2 but otherwise I could stay with my rift s.

You'd have to ask Oculus, personally find the lack of Wires to be the better option either way and don't understand why there is no official wireless option with a warning of "May not be stable"

Hey so, how would a Ryzen 7 3700x work out? Looking at some comparisons, the 5600x is looking to be a 10% improvement over the 7 3700x. If I valued my "get now" time at an extra 40 bucks, is it worth grabbing?

It looks like they're both the same price (at microcenter) so I really can't say/it depends on how patient you feel like being. The 3700x isn't a bad part at all but 5600x stock doesn't (or didn't) tend to evaporate in 0.3s like Nvidia cards did.
Also lol 3700xs are selling for $25 over the msrp of a 5600x at Newegg right now.

Those were the lovely servers that were being passed around the amd and nvidia threads about a month ago that people were using to get parts. A bot pings you as soon as amazon or whoever updates their stock, basically. Mute everyone else.

Did the Chromecast to a TV functionality for the Quest ever get improved upon? I remember hearing at launch that it was so laggy that it was pretty much unusable but I was hoping to have a way to sit around with the GF and laugh at dumb VR stuff together.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is getting its VR update at some point today. If you have Game Pass for Windows, or Ultimate, you can play it on that, or its on Steam.

I have a Rift S and used my friend’s Quest 2 and I didn’t notice any latency when actually linked with the cable. Only had some latency when streaming wireless through Virtual Desktop.

Quest 2 is fine. It sometimes lags on the TV a bit but I never notice it in the headset. I dunno about Quest 1, I heard it had some issues there.

Nice, that's good to hear. Feels like one of the biggest benefits of the quest is being able to show it off (under normal, non-pandemic circumstances) so this always seemed like a cool functionality to have if it works properly.
