Unlucky7 posted:Got Anodyne 2 because it was basically $5 on Epic and I was surprised that I am actually kind of digging it, even though I could not get into the first one. Anodyne and Anodyne 2 don't really have a lot in common beyond the title. I loved the first one and was slightly disappointed by the second, but I can easily imagine a lot of people having the other preference.

Fanatical has the complete edition for a mere which is the best the pass alone has even been, let alone the whole thing. Det_no posted:I hated it. Moving units around the map was extremely slow even in comparison to 3 and the writing was so awfully insipid and directionless, factions felt more generic than the orcs and elves of 3. I'm pretty sure I'm in the extreme minority when it comes to that though. Just wanted to add, most people really loving love the game and it's incredible. The DLC also added ways to speed up travel. And I personally felt the races were very cool and unique. They all play differently. Det_no is in the minority like he said. Definitely entitled to his opinion but I think most people who enjoy strategy or X-Com tactics games would really like it.

I played Even the Ocean, the platformer that they released between Anodynes, and found it utterly soul destroying. A fair-to-good indie platformer, but with reams upon reams of the worst loving writing. Got as far as the never ending flashback about a twee indie couple bickering while making soup and uninstalled. Is Anodyne 2 similarly wordy, or does it have the same terse and evocative atmosphere as the first one?

Nephthys posted:I'd term it as good/janky now. It's not a particularly pretty game and some of the mechanics are questionable but if you can look passed that its a compelling game. Thank you for the write up, I'll give Mordheim a try. It's weird that they went into that direction with Necromunda after their experience with Mordheim, maybe they wanted to focus more in the multiplayer aspect of the game and failed miserably.

Looks like the storefront has rolled over to the Winter Sale (22 DEC to 05 JAN) but as usual, it's going to take a little bit before the discounts actually start appearing on individual store pages.

Bummer. Also, it seems every game that is NOT on sale cannot be bought in many regions. It'll probably get fixed in a moment once the servers catch their breath.

Ngl, a winter sale were they just go "nothing is discounted, just buy it anyway" would be a power move.

Dicey Dungeons To be honest I thought Dicey Dungeons was fine. It has a great style and I enjoyed it's humour. The deckbuilding-esque combat is clever and it's fun to puzzle out the most effective combinations of dice + equpments you can make in a turn. The main reason I'd say it was one of my top games of the year was how well it worked playing it with my girlfriend. My girlfriend loves boardgames but is less keen on videogames. I'm the opposite. Dicey Dungeons worked as a great mix of the two that we really enjoyed playing together. She would be the one controlling the game and we'd puzzle out the combat encounters together. Would definitely recommend for any others who might be in a similar situation. Also we both think the witch is super cute. Unworthy Unworthy is a pixel graphic, metroidvania, indie platformer that's clearly inspired by Dark Souls wait whereareyougoing? Honestly though, I think it works becasue it manages to include the bits I love from games like Hollow Knight, Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight and yes, Dark Souls. Exploration is challenging but rewarding - there's a lack of overt exposition or guidance which lets you feel like you're really discoveringing things rather than just following a marker. It's not fully open, but there are often multiple ways you can go at a given time, with optional bosses and secrets to find. I believe there's even a hidden ending you can get through sequencing breaking to leave a certain boss alive. I thought the greyscale look would be annoying, but it generally works really well. The animations are good and it provides a strong, bleak atmosphere to the whole thing. It's not perfect by any means. The map is often pretty useless. Bosses feel like they have a bit more health than they really need to, and I got pretty fed up of fighting through their easy phase so I can just die again on their harder phase(s).

Owning both Necromunda and Mordheim, I highly recommend Mordheim (particularly at $4) but I cannot say the same for Necromunda because the enemy AI doesn't bother attacking most of the time. The maps for Necromunda are really creative though, I will say that. Also, play Skaven. They are the best, yes-yes!
