The door is hollow, they're just deforming it. Clearance around the door in the frame is between 1/8" and 1/4", and hinges have minimal clearance, just enough to get the hinges to fit, not flopping around space. Also the hinge pins are still in place.

It does raise the question of how the cat got its head in there in the first place. Did the door close on it or did it slip into a marginal gap? If the gap was marginal, it wouldn’t take much to enlarge it for extraction.
