That conflict in need I think can compel them to forget the fragility of the power they have, which is a frightening, and perhaps shameful, thought, which likely leads them to consciously forget their feelings of shame in general, since it's easier to forget than to resolve your own hypocrisy. So the hunger for more pride to fill the hole left by their shame rarely ceases and they become insulated in that way, or something like that. But that doesn't mean their unconscious brain and body has forgotten the shame. In a way it's almost like they've set themselves up to be doomed to repeat their social mistakes having forgotten the tools necessary to learn from them. Get enough powerful people like that in a room and some extremely dumb and horrifying poo poo can happen. Idk who knows I suppose the idea of people with literal lizard skin seems less far fetched everyday. Ok concept: grey aliens have neotenous traits (large heads, large eyes, large brains, small nose and mouth, flattened faces, low muscle tone and small bone structure, hairlessness, reduced or absent external genitals etc.) because there was a heavy domestication or similar pressure on their evolution at some point in the relatively recent past. Reasons for this could be: The features were selected to be cute by some spacefaring race that either remains hidden or is long extinct. So if Greys are the puppies of the galaxy... If they were a pet species, what was the wolf/hominid analogue ancestor like? What was their domesticating species? Or if they, like humans, evolved neoteny (relative neoteny when compared to our ape cousins at least) as a way to increase interbreeding with similar species and reduce speciation, was this intentional to allow them to interbreed with similar sapient species? Humans? Is that why they come here and gently caress around with our holes? Some other function of neoteny; there are tons of examples in nature, many bugs and of course axolotls retain youthful features into adulthood. If so, what was the pressure and what is the benefit.
