Bit of a story there. At the time of that post I had just beaten the German border closing to fly back and be with my wife in Okinawa. Stayed in Okinawa until my visa ran out, then had to return to Germany. At that point I had been offered a job in Okinawa, though, so I had to get my Japanese residents' visa. Since I quit my German job and with it my German residency, I had to return to a country where I had legal residency to get my Japanese visa. Original plan was to do that in Australia (where I got citizenship in 2016) but it turned out they weren't letting enough people in for me to do that, so I had to do it in the USA. Anyway after two more months of hiding out in hotels and my sister's house in Oklahoma I finally got my visa and could come to Japan. Then two weeks in quarantine in Tokyo, and I finally got back to Okinawa about a week and a half ago. It has been a loving weird time, literally going all the way around the world during a pandemic just to end up where I started with a different job and immigration status. But anyway my Christmas present is that after three years of me working in Europe and her working in Japan, my wife and I have two good jobs in the same place, and that's about as good as it gets. How's by you?

Wow that's a hell of a year. My 14-on-7-off job stopped existing when the border closures came in, and I would have had to quarantine every swing. I could basically just work away from my family or, as my wife said, "gently caress it we haven't got a mortgage just come home and we'll ride it out". The first lockdown of three months then finished, the second wave kicked in like an absolute bastard, and we locked down again. I spent most of the year coaching my kids through learning from home. My wife got used to having me around and I've been thinking about it for a while, so now I'm off to uni again next year to get a Master's in teaching.

Oof, that sounds like a rough choice to have made. Congrats on going back to uni, though! I didn't go until I was 25 (and then grad school at 31) and it was probably one of the best choices I have ever made.

I'm not a regular poster in this thread so my crimbo isn't of particular interest (it was lovely though), but I really enjoy seeing derails like this where it becomes visible that people on these forums can actually get to know each other to some extent. It's nice! Found this saved on my phone and it's somewhat amusing.

I'm sure I saw it here but now it's gone and my google-fu is weak: a tiktok of an athlete smoothly removing her hoodie by putting her foot in the hood and pulling it off in a single smooth move, followed by about 10 people trying to do that and loving it up and face planting/flipping off the bed etc.
