i like my ds4 but it has to stay wired for some reason but tjay doesn’t really bother me

compatibility is worse than xbox tho by the sounds, ubisoft stuff knows what it is but other games treat it like an xbox and the emulation program is a bit poo poo wrt to the analog sticks ime

can you explain in which ways 7zip is 'so much worse'

how much archiving and unarchiving are you doing.

there are only two things you ever need to do with archive files

right click file -> 7-zip -> extract to "filename"
right click folder -> 7-zip -> add to "filename.zip"

why do you need winrar

the only thing thats stupid about 7zip is the context menu defaults which are awful

am i consistently using the wrong 7zip or have i failed to configure it making it not understand .tar.gz (and any tar-in-a-compressed-format file) at all? as in, sure it has the "extract to xyz", but it drops the contained tar there.

which winrar does not do, it understands that anytime there is a tar in a gz it means that the contents of the tar is what the user is looking for.

oh wait, wait. i mean buy winrar

im not a big controller user but the 360 –> one was like going from best to bester

all I know is that a felt frustration using 7zip more than a few times vs winrar which i’ve never had a problem with

but generally it’s to do with unarchiving large archives or isos

sometimes i could open an archive but couldn’t copy whatever out of it because of some issue where the temp folder wasn’t big enough or some similar problem (suppose i could have fiddled with settings but if you need to janitor your archiving program then RIP)

or another one where i had some huge iso and it would spend a long time extracting it and then just fail at the end

I was so brainwashed by the cult of 7zip i thought the archive was broken and I gave up

a big time later it occurred to install winrar and ya know what? it’s worked flawlessly every time

so 7zip with its ugly interface and often but not always works ethos is so much worse than a showy but never fail winrar.

yup

it solves some problems but not very well and not very clearly. there are some things I still want in my context menu.

the problem is that even if it was bad its not a complex task. it still shouldnt require so much time. especially if I do it and then do it again. windows is clearly flushing caches or not keeping poo poo in cache that it could

simply put.. steve ballmer smells

i was gonna write some poo poo here about how one of your context menu things must be hosed but I went and tried loving around again on my pc and have you considered that you are using slow lovely hard disks and have your power management set up so they are sometimes parked? cos my pc is worse than yours in every aspect but the right click in explorer is instantaneous except for right clickign on non-ssd drives that are not open yet. so maybe check your power management to stop it spinning disks down / defrag your porn folder or add an ssd cache or something

edit: also if u have somthing liek git installed in teh right click menu just don't. in fact post up a screenshot of your rigfht click menu that is slow and i can tell u which thing sucks

I’m cloning into some new Ryzen 4750G desktops, :hellyeah:, and going from SATA to nvme.2 drives to do so, and BIOS isn’t initializing the UEFI partition to boot in the new systems SO...

wiztree uses the MFT info instead of iterating all the files on the disk so its massively faster. The same guy wrote a file search tool called wizfile that also uses the mft for searching so its almost instant

i just have wiztree as a standalone and not context menu integrated tho.
