Hey I didn’t mean to say Final Fantasy or any other rpg game doesn’t have the capability of character development and emotional resonance, I mean the series pretty much introduced the concept of feeling things about characters in a game. But it can also be true that the delivery is cheesy and hamfisted, as is often the case with anime inspired content. You can “get” what’s going on in the Tidus laughing scene and still laugh at it.

Ubisoft games always go on massive discount weeks after release, they probably did the math and realized they make a majority of their full price sales within the first couple of weeks and it's better for long term sales to discount heavily after that point.

Yup. Anyone that buys an Ubisoft game the first month is a sucker. Unless it was Mario + Rabbids than it’s okay.

I think that math would be valid for most, if not all, developers/publishers. It would be interesting to see what calculus Nintendo has done on this for their 1st party games, or if they just have a concrete policy of selling at launch price forever.

I think they would be a lot more willing to adjust pricing if they weren't producing the systems as well. They're ultra protective of their IP because it can keep a failing system afloat if 3rd parties jump ship, see the Wii U and the 3DS before the first price reduction.

Nintendo titles sell for years after release. Splatoon 2 averages out around 200,000 copies sold a month outside of the holiday season. Fire Emblem: Three Houses was selling around 100,000 copies a month at the beginning of 2020. Even "lesser known" titles like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 sold 160,000 copies from January to June 2020 (that's very impressive for a three year old JRPG). All this at full price. I realize there is a lot of stuff to lol at Nintendo about, but them not devaluing their games makes a lot of sense.

Amorphous Abode posted:Oh, check out Tumbleseed. It's not pinball, but it is based on another style of mechanical arcade game, where you would guide a pinball up a vertical wall playing field with a metal balance bar, avoiding holes. Tumbleseed fits into that adventure game category, specifically its a roguelite, and it is nails tough but has a very chill visual style and soundtrack. A very nice game to relax with if your idea of relaxing involves intense focus and executing perfect, subtle manoeuvres. Wamdoodle posted:Zen Pinball is pretty much the only one that has a variety of tables and they have the Williams license now if you're looking for digital recreations of classic titles. Zen also did Star Wars Pinball which has a nice selection of tables but they are more fantastical and don't resemble an actual pinball table. You're probably thinking of Yoku's Island Express, which has been mentioned already. There's Demon Tilt which is going for Devil's Crush type of aesthetic. It's a little hard to make everything out in portable mode. Pinball Arcade is a shadow of it's former self after loosing the aforementioned Williams license to Zen. They have a bunch of modern tables by Stern which from all accounts have been really underwhelming. Same with Stern Pinball Arcade. There's the Zacarria Pinball collection but those are all recreations of tables from the 70's and while the frontend is nicely featured, the tables are barebones as should be expected from tables at the time. There's a reason why you don't hear much about other tables from before Williams came around. There's a few titles to stay away from that have pinball in the name that are just quick cash grabs and I've heard nothing good about them at all. There's alot to list but the publisher name is SuperPoweredUpGames. mdemone posted:I think that math would be valid for most, if not all, developers/publishers. But still they've loosened up a bit, I think starting a while back around the Wii U/3DS with semi consistent sales. Sparse and not as heavy discounts compared to most companies but it's a noticeable difference vs the old days of full price forever (...with "Player's Choice" releases like 5 years down the line). It's the only version of 4 that I have played all the way through and I've done so multiple times. I do recommend looking up a guide for "Augments", though. The game is obtuse about it and you can screw yourself over on them very easily if you don't know what you're doing. Also the game doesn't pull any punches in terms of combat difficulty and I appreciate that.

One of the most interesting stories to me is Wario Land Shake it!. The game initially failed to meet expectations selling less than 350,000 copies. But when all was said and done Nintendo managed to ship over a million copies of the game. It was so successful it was speculated that it convinced Nintendo to develop New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii.

I figure they're banking on making money back on the DLC, because there seems to be lots and iirc from Mario+Rabbids that DLC never drops. Still, if I worked at Ubisoft, going through all the pain a developer/programmer has to go through, I'd feel a peeved to see the last few years of work devalued that quickly. --- I realized that the dude that killed me in my best run of Dead Cells was the final boss, so now I feel like this poo poo is going to happen. I've definitely gotten better and it's a fun game with the right items. Just looking for an ideal path to both break the tedium, but also get back to that point more easily.

So there's a hubbub about a horror game called sense: a cyberpunk ghost story. The main characters have big tits with exposed cleavage. It was announced for the switch recently, and it was found by what appears to be a bunch of pearl-clutching TERFS who responded to the news like this: https://twitter.com/BruerMorris/status/1344580211464155137 Then a few days later, the devs dropped this bombshell: https://twitter.com/TopHatStudiosEN/status/1345071217636732930 I kinda thought it was a stupid overreaction, and so did a lot of other people. Then they just showed a sampling of the emails and threats they got. https://twitter.com/TopHatStudiosEN/status/1345504338706370560 'Be a shame if something was sent to [presumed address]' sounds like a bomb threat, . https://twitter.com/TopHatStudiosEN/status/1345504817721073665 Literally 'Nintendo is allowing porn on their consoles', 'this is all a [transphobic slur] plot', etc. I think a bunch of puritan TERFS found out about the game and started a harassment campaign. Thats what got me to post this, because of the of people who think that because you put a big titty on the cover of a game that its part of a plot by transwomen or something stupid.
