Wonder if Britain will realize that they're not an empire anymore, and lots of people will just cease to trade with them, the existence of the EU kinda cushioned that particular realization in the past.

UK wants to bring back notable UK enterprises that made them famous!

Like Lucas, Rover, Vauxhall, Austin Morris.....

....oh wait, now I remember why they joined the EU in the first place: Because they thought their dog poo poo could compete with European and Japanese markets and they were woefully inept and uninformed about how bad their products were.

Every man likes a pretty girl with him at a skeleton dance.
Attorneys for the men charged in the death of Ahmaud Arbery don’t want him called a ‘victim’.

quote:

Another motion asks the court to limit photos of Arbery to just one in the trial, and that he appear by himself. It also requests that a non-related witness identify Arbery in the photograph, instead of a relative, "to avoid creating cumulative prejudicial error in the trial of this case."

...

Attorneys for the McMichaels have also filed a motion asking that the court forbid spectators in the trial from wearing facemasks or t-shirts with "Black Lives Matter," "I can't breathe" or similar slogans marked on them, as some did, they say, during previous proceedings in the case.

Shatner has enough money. He's going to stop selling his poo poo in the UK because of what equates to a tax accountant fee on his end? Does he not profit more than $1000/year from the sales of his trinkets in the UK or do the losses start cutting into his History Channel bullshit show money?

Almost $1400 once converting from pounds to dollars - and that's just to file the registration paperwork. They then have to pay an additional 20% tax on everything they sell.

The UK has levied what is effectively a 20% tariff on virtually all goods that could be imported. A lot of people are going to stop selling to the UK rather than have to go through the additional cost of registering and paying the VAT. It's difficult to pass through a 20% increase to customers and maintain enough business to justify operating.

once you start wanting to mass produce 40k figures its gonna take a LONG time to make them so I don't think that will bring the price down, also models now a days are so detailed, it would be able to tell right away with most newer models

It would end up being 25% to cover the VAT entirely because it's based upon the final sale price. For example, a widget costs $100 pre-VAT. If you just increased that to $120 to offset the 20% tax, you'd pay $24 in VAT ($120*20%) and end up only getting $96 for the widget. To balance that, widget maker will actually have to charge $125 (vat = $25) to get the same $100.

A sudden 25% increase in the cost of goods (which is already probably higher because of shipping costs) is going to cause a large dropoff in orders. Dropoffs in sales mean you get less benefit from bulk shipping, etc. There are cascading effects of such large tariffs and they effectively stop the sale of the good because the price is too high compared to domestic alternatives.

For a real world example, the chicken tax put a 25% tariff on imported trucks which has basically killed all foreign truck sales in the united states for almost 50 years or so. The chicken tax is why toyota trucks and the like sold in America are made in America.

Yeah, I figured there were larger consequences beyond "just raise the price" but there are effectively products and goods that it's just going to happen with, so in order to break even, every importer will charge more. What does the UK even make anymore?
