So now you’ve got a good 20% (at least) of the country loving radicalized to believe nonsense. Maybe 1% are true believers/ideologues but the rest will follow out of social cohesion.

I just read the definitions of treason and insurrection and I don't think those are gonna stick tbh. The levying war clause would be pretty tough to demonstrate and most treason cases on Wikipedia that weren't based on supporting axis powers resulted in acquittal. Sedition seems unlikely too.

Someone in the comments claims that abstentions might be a way for the Senate to get to a 2/3rds supermajority without actually forcing some Republicans to vote for impeachment. It's an interesting tactic, but I thought an impeachment vote required 2/3rds of all Senators, not just 2/3rds of those voting.
