MazelTovCocktail posted:From an article posted in GBS. Anyone have any ideas on what those exceptions might be? Not anything to invoke the wizard of course. I figure stuff like this has been refined over the years from Iraq and Afghanistan and domestically after this summer. I’m assuming pointing rifles at ready and stuff, but what other things might it entail? I've been activated and armed twice for State Active Duty as a Guardsman, and once in a natural disaster relief role. I am not a JAG, just going to tell you how it was explained to us. First, it is Rules on Use of Force (RUF) not ROE, the NG isn't activated stateside to engage anyone. The RUF was been, pointing a loaded weapon at someone is aggravated battery, you better be justified in doing so. We were only authorized to fire to defend ourselves or someone else from being killed after exhausting all reasonable alternatives. Alternatives being utilizing the LEOs we were attached to, verbal commands, batons, OC spray, ect. Obviously commonsense prevails, if someone is being actively stabbed, we didn't need to politely ask them to stop. And, if we shoot, we better be sure we kill whomever we shot. Once again, not a JAG, just going over the basics from the RUF briefs.

MazelTovCocktail posted:Thanks I appreciate the insight. NP, for context, the second time we were activated was this past summer in Minneapolis after the death of George Floyd. I would imagine the RUF from that would be the same as the RUF for the upcoming missions in DC, since the context (Civil Unrest) is similar.

After completing recruit training and MOS school he was assigned to the USS Kitty Hawk in March 2006, where he stayed until Sept. 29, 2007, at which point he was transferred to a Transient Personnel Unit in Puget Sound in Washington state. Perseverance in what men called honor was popular with none, it was so uncertain whether they would be spared to attain the object; but it was settled that present enjoyment, and all that contributed to it, was both honorable and useful. Fear of gods or law of man there was none to restrain them. As for the first, they judged it to be just the same whether they worshipped them or not, as they saw all alike perishing; and for the last, no one expected to live to be brought to trial for his offenses, but each felt that a far severer sentence had been already passed upon them all and hung ever over their heads, and before this fell it was only reasonable to enjoy life a little. e: added a bit Doc Hawkins fucked around with this message at 20:55 on Jan 12, 2021 |

Bottom line to the FBI/DOJ presser so far: the feds brought quick-charges as quick as they could, like all the trespass misdemeanors, to get people arrested and get poo poo on the board. The felony charges are coming as they've now gotten a grand jury going. Special group specifically made to add-on poo poo like sedition-style charges and etc. https://twitter.com/kyledcheney/status/1349090408719130625

Anyone else watching the FBI/DOJ briefing? Couple of key points -The AG made it a point to explain that while some of the initial charges are pretty mild and they understand the criticism, they specifically charged several people with whatever they could at first in order to open a file on that person and establish contact. - quote:“We are looking at significant cases of sedition and conspiracy. ...Cases that carry up to 20 years.” -They are saying that some of the footage still hasn't really filtered out into the common discourse yet and people will likely be surprised by some of the footage they've already seen.
