Mainly I just have the same attitude towards ganstershit as people who don't like cringe comedy. I just don't connect or like a character when they're willingly participating in organised crime. A whole show about self serving criminals making the world a shitter place just doesn't appeal to me no matter how well drawn and acted.

I'm not against characters committing crimes in general its just these loving tedious mafiosoes sitting around pasta resturants getting randos beat up for not eating their spaghetti correctly or whatever petty bullshit they've arbitarilly decided is a matter of honour and death that I just can't stand.

It's wild to hear talk about When Prophecy Fails. I remember that book coming up in discussion a lot in the church my family attended when I was a child, The Worldwide Church of God.

The local congregation fell apart around '92. The church elders discovered many of their foundational beliefs were nonbiblical, and also the cold war ended without the promised armageddon. All-in-all, a big disappointment for everyone involved.

This was a lot more hopeful in the end than I had been expecting. Hopefully qanon will contract significantly if trump is made to look especially weak and foolish within the next little while, like if he’s convicted in the impeachment and has an impotent press conference where he yells or cries or something.

E: The thing about Sex and the City is that yes it is beloved but the movies, especially the second one, kind of destroyed that show's legacy and now they're coming back and not even with the full cast thanks to beef. There is a reason why people don't talk about the show anymore and why The Sopranos has aged so well and experienced a renewed renaissance.

The immediately stupid part is that the thing Film Robert cares about most, more than lost loved ones, is that Covid took away his lovely 3-hour long toy commercials.

The less immediately stupid thing is that anti-vaxxers aren't the reason we're still in the middle of this. The US doesn't have enough doses to vaccinate everyone and the promised distribution system is a joke. And that's before getting into how waiting a year for a vaccine instead of deploying epidemiological techniques has already cost hundreds of thousands of lives.

Anti-vaxxers, while they've killed hundreds or even thousands of people, are just a symptom of the underlying problem. If Trump had lost in 2016 and every anti-vaxxer had dropped dead before the pandemic started Andrew Cuomo would still be stuffing our grandparents' bodies into refrigerated trailers while we clapped for under-equipped, underpaid, overworked nurses dropping like World War I infantry.

And like most of his ilk, he ignores the racist element of the US health system and how the BIPOC population are extremely suspicious of it and probably won't seek to receive a vaccination.

maybe for one second you can pause; try to step into another person's perspective, and understand that a watermelon is cursing me

He's not even right. There are reasons it's not a crime to not vaccinate even for the regular stuff that kills people every year.

And the article isn't even announcing any delays - it's assuming there will be announcements of delays without embracement of the hybrid VOD release that Warner Bros has done, which incidentally they say was a massive success; and even then, we're still in the quarter of Endless Trash so was anything really to be lost anyway? What's the difference going to be in delaying a film that you already decided was going to come out at Dump Time because the numbers weren't going to be good? What's the difference going to be in releasing it on your streaming platform and just forgoing the cinema entirely except making Scorsese mad at awards time?

There is some historical precedence for it wrt the smallpox vaccine, but saying that American POC won't vaccinate en masse for COVID today is an absolutely nuclear take.

I recently finished the Sopranos and thought it was absolutely excellent. I can't say that I liked the characters. Fascinated and compelled by them, sure. But like? No. But that's the shows design, they're all repulsive. Tony is interesting because you see slivers of humanity in him but they inevitably get rolled over by his sociopathy. A show like Sopranos, or Breaking Bad, or The Wire or whatever doesn't require you to like the characters, they're not about likeable people, and if you do end up liking them at any point, they tend to whip that rug out from under you real quick.

That said, I soon discovered that many people did see Tony as a heroic figure, which I can't explain.

It's why I said probably. The point I was trying to make is that there are folks who are rightfully suspicious of vaccinations that will be lumped in with the anti-vaxxer crowd by people like Film Robert and forcing them to get vaccinated is yikes. Especially of one that was developed under this administration who were really quick to get it out there and make a massive spectacle of it being administered.
