Obama was arguably the 'Jimmy with the bugs worked out' than a JFK - a young, popular technocratic politician who (notably and in contrast to Carter) was able to cooperate with the Party Establishment to get some major policy objectives passed into law, and like Carter later fell back to foreign policy wins when his domestic agenda ended up getting derailed (by the other party rather than his own this time).
