Remember how a bunch of former Chikara guys got mad that Raw Underground/Retribution (when it seemed like the angles were connected) was a poor man's knockoff of their poor man's storyline?

Matt Demorest was part of that Chikara angle in what was basically the spot T-Bar filled.

Yeah, I remember people fantasy booking Raw Underground as being a training ground that would end up saving WWE from Retribution. Then they just stopped doing Raw Underground.

Also they stopped portraying Retribution as this shadowy group of dangerous violent hooligans and turned them into a bunch of geeks and jobbers instead.

And the mercy seat is awaiting,

EZ Money is like the quintessential wrong place wrong time, looking at the footage of him from the last days of ECW and last days of WCW and he was so supremely talented and ahead of the curve.

Luckily he has a lot of company now in the role of "literally any wrestler in WWE from 2010 until now"

Excelling is a lot easier when the opportunities are handed to you repeatedly. Frankly, even with that I wouldn't say she's really excelled. She's been fine.

If that was her gimmick she'd probably be over as a heel. Instead she has no gimmick and that's just her in real life making sure she only ever has go away heat.

Also I guess she hasn't heard all the Goldberg backlash? Idk maybe she is working in that tweet.

Yep, Cena and Reigns are great examples. There was also Orton as well, who copped a lot of poo poo during his feud with Christian in 2011.

Honestly, as much as the criticism levelled at her can, and should, be laid at the feet of creative and/or Vince (probably mostly Vince), she really doesn't help herself either. Her winning the Women's Rumble and her promo responding to the booing should have led to a heel turn, but honestly, it's really clear the WWE and she just refuse to understand why she's not going to catch on with the crowd as a face for a long, long time, and the more she and this :mitt: poo poo gets shoved down the dwindling audience's collective throats, the more the people will resent the WWE and her for it.

Not just them, I still remember the glory days of Smackdown when Batista would get random title shots on what felt like a monthly basis.

gently caress, just last week Goldberg came out and randomly got a title shot against Drew after being gone for 10 months, and that got a whole lot of criticism.

I absolutely do not blame Charlotte for feeling like there is a double-standard IRT gender issues between her and male wrestlers in similar positions.
I do blame Charlotte for being born on 3rd base and acting like she hit a triple.

Page covered something that’s never, ever publicly talked about in wrestling: The state of a human’s mental health.

Reflecting on this, it really is one of the best moments of wrestling in not just 2020, but wrestling in the 2000s.

It’s psychology you don’t teach—you just live it and intertwine. Page is easily one of the smartest wrestlers in the public eye today. Well-deserved award.

I just think WWE are bad at pushing their top stars or making it feel organic in any way shape of form and it's become noticeable to the point where "Top star returns and immediately inserts themselves into the Main Event" draws heat.

Exactly. I hate comparing them to AEW, but at least every title shot there feels somewhat earned or there's a legit storyline reason behind it. Fenix was supposed to face Kenny Omega in the tournament, but since he got injured, he wanted his shot at the champ. The Acclaimed went on a run, got ranked, and demanded a shot at the champs.

There's nothing wrong with "you have the belt, I want the belt, let's fight." But there has to be SOMETHING behind it, otherwise, the whole story is nothing more than a house of matchsticks.

And drat it, every time I see your avatar I want to go load up Sam & Max Hit the Road. I never beat it when I originally played it way back when.

Charlotte was a huge part of a group of women who put an unprecedented spotlight on women's wrestling in the United States. The Four Horsemen almost remind of the Beatles in that sense.
Buuuuut, she's the Ringo of the group. She hasn't figured out she's the fourth best and hasn't picked up on the fact that the other 3 have jumped ahead of her despite getting half her opportunities.
It's infuriating, if only because 'Clueless Privileged Bootstrappers' are so frustrating in general. I guess it's a hard thing to pick up on when you're in the position where you DID work hard to be where you are so it's not a lie per se. But not being able to understand that effort and success are not one of the same is still a bad character flaw.

Are you talking based on debut? The Godfather gimmick lasted longer (right?) and his thing was just being a pimp.

Simon Dean was a fitness guru (or something) and that happened sometime in the 2000s, right? That may be the latest one but I'm sure someone else can drudge up another very bad "this is my job" gimmick even beyond him.

I feel like that's a bit mean, Ringo always seemed fairly aware of his limitations!

Charlotte is probably right about there being numerous hypocrisies associated with being a woman wrestler when compared to men, but unfortunately that will probably be lost for the (very reasonable) reasons already mentioned.

iirc the pornstar gimmick itself ended in early 2000 and he just became Technical Wrestler Val Venis after that until the Chief Morley stuff ended and he became Towel Guy Val Venis again in like 2004

I was on Wikipedia looking at the WWEs current roster to see if any current wrestlers are job gimmicks (btw yes: it's the fiend, who is canonically a children's talk show host) and whoever added the photos here seems to hate Charlotte because they picked the absolute worst photo of her I've ever seen.
