Is "cannibal" an identity you can just adopt? I've always had the impression that you have to actually eat a human to be a cannibal. If you just tell girls that you fantasize about it it's called being an edgelord.

I think you actually have to freely enter into the decision to consume human flesh in order to be a cannibal rather than just a person who has engaged in an act of cannibalism. The people who resorted to human flesh as a result of extreme survival situations under threat of starvation can hardly be said to have acted freely and thus I think must be considered differently. Probably a weird experience to come back from either way though.
