uh, the humans created the capitalism by paying the dolphins. the dolphins just realized that there is no ethical consumption and that humans are easy to scam

Yeah, what the deal? The dolphin didn't create capitalism, the dumb humans are just salty that she's better at it than them.

It's not capitalism until the head dolphin pays other dolphins to hide stuff! Clearly these dolphins have formed a peaceful syndicate

lol what a dumb take

the aquarium was the one to create capitalism by trying to train the dolphins to scab and undercut the wages of the existing tank-cleaning staff

one of the dolphins figured out how to cheat the capitalists, and freely shared that knowledge with their fellow dolphins

in the UK they call these types of things Property Guardians where you can rent a spot in an abandoned building that needs guards or cleaners and you get to be the guard or cleaner if you pay them.

tbh in decaying modern California where every single strip mall is at best half empty that sounds like a good deal. I'll live in your lovely office park if you pay me

you only live in part of it, but you have to guard the whole thing. its like getting a job as the night watchman at a mall, but you get a room for free when youre not working, but instead of getting a paycheck, you have to pay rent

does it entail actual guarding, or is it so that it's not legally "abandoned"

It sounds like it's the second one until someone breaks in to steal some copper at which point it magically switches to the first one and you're liable because you were supposed to be guarding it

mostly the second, it's a way for absentee commercial landlords to deter squatters in vacant buildings

but it's also a convenient way to bypass all manner of tenant protections, because the "guardians" are treated as contractors with a "license to occupy" rather than as actual tenants. so illegal evictions and barely-inhabitable spaces abound. this theory likely has no legal force behind it, but local authorities are typically uninterested in prosecuting the agencies that write the contracts since these low-cost arrangements are convenient in an age of service cuts and shuttered agencies

on top of that, it's a tax savings for the owners because they can dodge business tax by reclassifying the buildings as domestic rather than commercial

It probably saves on insurance too. An unoccupied building can cost more to insure.
