Due to you actually being required to follow the law, your team in SWAT 4 are the most highly-regulated cops in America and those restrictions actually make it a very tense and challenging cooperative shooter if you play with people instead of the dreadful AI. I don't actually know if you can legally obtain it anywhere anymore though.

Man, SWAT 4. That game's pretty good. Of course, when it comes to rule following...the game wouldn't have existed without Police Quest before it. May god have mercy on your soul if you don't follow procedure. Or walk around your car (or in the case of the orginal, actually get into it and try to drive because gently caress THAT).

Also props to the original SWAT FMV game from the Police Quest series. A truly random experience where on the first mission you can be asked to cover the team's entrance. You can then listen to them find the suspect and arrest them all on their own. Mission complete. I went ahead and bought SWAT 4 on GOG just to get the extra missions, since I only had the original set on my old disk. It still plays pretty well. Just a shame about the AI though. For fun, try SWAT 3 too. It's a wonderful chaotic experience. Weirdly enough it has QoL improvements over 4 that I miss, while also being inconvenient and out of date in other ways. Accidentally reporting too many dead people as wounded, or double-reporting shot suspects will make your team disrespect you so much that they stop following your orders over the course of the campaign. The AI is based on your CPU speed without much of an upper limit (I believe that's still true). That means that you will naturally get lighting reflexes to shoot dots halfway across the map before they outsnipe you, and you'll marvel at your team of god-tier shooters who are complete idiots but have perfect aimbot aim. Enjoy a Tom Clancy level plot with multiple points that can devolve into nuclear war. It is a fun experience if you can put up with the jank.

That's how I started watching TGWTG, Kids React and other stuff like that (I was 12-13 at the time and didn't know English well enough to understand Doug's screeching). They're probably mostly dead nowadays and only serve as a vault of long-deleted videos.

Yeah, a lot of the stories behind Sierra and how people ended up working for them are interesting but Jim Walls is right up there. He was a standard cop, was traumatised and on leave after a shootout, had kind of a chance meeting with Ken Williams who encouraged him to tell his stories through adventure games and ended up hiring him. A chunk of the devtime for Police Quest was spent teaching Walls how to actually use a computer. Gates doesn't come in fully unitl the fourth game, but things take a seriously dark shift on his arrival. PQ3 is a bit darker than 1 and 2 but Open Season is aaaalll kinds of hosed up.

I know some people here don't seem to like Vice Games (formerly known as Waypoint), but they did do a pretty in-depth article about Sierra On-Line bringing Gates in for Police Quest 4.
